  • Also cheaper than DigiDirect

  • Ordered one. Thanks!

  • These lenses dont have image stabilisation. So I dont think this would be great for Sony NEX series.
Also not sure, if the motor will work with the adapter.

    • You don't need an adapter for this lens with NEX or m4/3

      • Ok. But the Teds website asks you to either have NEX or other adapter while purchasing. Might be good for other cameras where IS is in the camera itself.

    • Right, because photographers couldn't take pictures before the invention of image stabilisation. Just think of this as a very affordable daylight portrait/tele lens. If you want low light IS that bad, then be willing to pay 3x-5x more when the rumoured 85/1.8 OSS comes out.

    • OSS you mean? the ones that do start at 300+.

I would recommend the 19 (widescreen) or 30 (everyday) vs 60 though if at the same price.

The 60 review isn't as great as the other two plus very close to the zoom kit (18-55) that has OSS with no significant size reduction.

Personally I went for the 19 mm as the Sony wide lens is crap according to the Sigma one plus overpriced. As for the 30 range I got the SEL35F18 with OSS(it did burn my wallet in the process). The cheaper alternative would be the SEL50F18 with OSS which many rave about.

      • OSS is Sony's marketing name for what is IS. And you're comparing apples to oranges 55mm @ f5.6 zoom vs 60mm @ f2.8 prime.

        • -2

          Its 18-55 F 3.5/5.6 actually NOT F5.6.

        • 18mm = F3.5
55mm = F5.6. so 5.6 is what you consider when comparing to the 60mm sigma

        • -1

Yes it is. It's not a fixed f/3.5.

        • -1

Actually I compared a whole bunch but who is counting.

  • Would this be compatible with my Nikon D3100?

    • no

  • Need the 30mm version :(

Why don't they make lenses for the Samsung NX series T_T

      "combined" coupon for free shipping

  • Got a call from Teds just now, and it looks like their stock has been Ozbargained at all stores except for Chadstone. Placing the order online may be a safer bet.

    • Did you call them or order pick-up?

      • Ordered to pick-up, was told that they have run out of all their stock and will ship in 2 weeks or so.

  • The check-out process asks you for a clubTed number… :\

Are they going to check it?

    • I hope not, but I doubt they care anyway. It' not worth losing a sale because the customer is not signed up to a free club.

  • Just ordered. Well, backordered. I'm not sure if I'll use it much but I reckon it's worth $160 to find out.

    cheers

  • Was called and told out of stock until mid-August. I guess at this price it's worth the wait.

    • I am not sure if I should get one or not. portraits from 18-55 comes good as well. Do you recon it to be much better for standard pics?

      • just get it. it's only $160! (that's what I told myself anyway)

If you don't use then sell it for a small loss. It will no doubt be better that your 18-55

        • Thanks. Bought One.

      • 60mm works out to be 90mm in 35mm format, which is perfect for a single person portrait + blurred background type pics. At 2.8 it'll be pretty good at that.

        How you liking the 5N?

        • Yea, I like it. I dont know and do too much setting tinkering, but the pics are quite nice.

The best mode I found is the Anti Blur mode, which takes portraits quite good. It take multiple pics and merge them.
Other that that, I do shots on Aperture mode.

  • Mine's now marked as shipped.

    • Same here, which is surprising considering it was already backordered by the time I ordered.

A rep from Teds even called me the next day to appologise for not having stock and let me know I'd see it mid august.

This is my first dealing with Teds and I'm pretty impressed so far.

      • Did you guys use the 5OFFCART successfully?

        • yep..5OFFCART worked for me.

          and 'combined' for free shipping.

        • That's cool, tempted.

      • Same, was called - I missed, then they shipped it anyway.

Going into Sydney store to pick up tomorrow

    • I just called Teds to confirm if my lens was actually shipped. It's hasn't been, despite the fact that their website says 'complete' and 'shipped'.

Some sort of human error and it'll be another couple of weeks apparently. grrrr.

      • oh man! maybe you missed out on the shipment.

I called the Pitt street Sydney store and mine is there ready for pick up (apparently mine is the only one there, so prob very low qty) I will go now! Report back after lunch!

        • When I ordered it was already on backorder, so I was expecting a wait. I just got a bit excited when they sent me an mistake 'shipped' email a few days ago.

        • Have you picked up the lens yet? How are you finding it?

      • I got an email from Auspost as well saying that the consignment has been dispatched, so it is on its way now!

PS: My local camera store wasn't quite happy with CR Kennedy as CR Kennedy didn't even bother contacting them about the new lenses at all.

  • Decided to change from delivery and picked one up in store yesterday. I'd be vey happy with this lens if it was $300, so for $160 I'm over the moon. It's a cracker.

Was a bit worried 60mm on m43 would be too long for me, but I really like it.

  • Ordered it on 1st Aug. and got mine delivered on 5th Aug. Surprised to see quick delivery as it was on backorder. Lens is made in Japan. But the outer box says: Packaged in China date: 23/05/13.
