Dont all AUSBUY products have that symbol displayed on the packaging of the food item.

Wouldn't it be quicker to look for that symbol rather than going through the process of unlocking your phone, looking for the app, clicking on the app, scanning the bar code etc.

Has technology made us that lazy to read :)

You, sir, need to download a better launcher.

      • Judging by the process he described he has an iPhone, no such luck for him. If you're on Android checkout Action Launcher Pro though, makes finding & launching apps so much faster.

Do they list Australian owned and made products that haven't paid them for inclusion in the app? Or is their patriotism limited to companies that hand over the cash?

Not sure about the app but I'm pretty sure the booklet lists other companies.
But they are a not for profit.

  • I just scanned the barcode on my 2016 Ford Falcon and it says "Sorry: not AUSBUY Approved"

    • +3

ford has never been australian owned

      • Well that explains why then. Thanks

When are you going back to the future? :)

What makes a product "Australian" according to this? Is it Australian made? Owned? Produced here from imported ingredients? Last time I looked at ausbuy it was hard to distinguish these different levels. I reckon they are just capitalising on patriotism.

    • You can read what their labels mean over here - http://www.ausbuy.com.au/ausbuy-logos.html

      • Thanks Brandon. That's better than nothing. One of my biggest concerns is Chinese food with melamine, as it will kill you, and the Chinese have been caught repeatedly.
Problem is that Aussie sellers say "from Australian and imported ingredients" on everything, which could mean "1 peach in every 100,000 across our line of tinned peaches".
You st least tell me that the ingredients are 51% Australian.
I'd be keen to know the origin of all ingredients.
Do you remember when a baby died of poisoning from breast feeding formula a few years back? One of several cases of melamine in food… Why? Melamine is cheap and it raises the protein content.

        • Back in 2007 there was a melanine tainted dog and cat food pet food recall in the US. Turns out the wheat gluten in dog and cat food imported from China was tainted with melamine. Up to 347 cats and dogs are thought to have died. The case never got much coverage in Austalia though. The melamine was also thought to get in the human good chain too with chickens and pigs for human consumption also feed the wheat gluten.

  • Try the goods from markets instead of supermarkets: Better quality and lower prices.
    They can stick their approval…

    • ah yes, my SD card reader at the markets that is definitely made here, just like the cheap Tshirt

        He means food, obviously. Sheesh.

      Exactly.

      They can stick their approval…

      …where the sun don't shine.

      Non-barcoded foods for the win.
