Received an email regarding this unit from Ebay Group deals.

Good reviews and allow you to stream Foxtel, Xbox, PS3, any unit with HDMI out to a remote TV where you don't want cable clutter to be visible or to a second TV if you use a HDMI splitter as well (eg Foxtel to 2 TV's at once).

Staticice shows the cheapest to be $99 + delivery

This is my first submission so please excuse any noobness on my behalf.

I've got one of these. Use it to send video and sound from my gaming PC in the study to my TV in the lounge. Works perfectly through a solid brick wall. Use it with Steam Big Picture mode and a wireless Xbox controller and you can ditch your console.

Nothing's as silent as a PC that's in another room.

Except a PC that is off…

    • Excellent, I had this application in mind when I saw the deal. So I assume the wirless Xbox controller runs through the wall fine too? From a quick look it appears you buy a normal xbox controller and get a USB receiver. Any issues I should be aware of? :)

You are correct, you can use your regular wireless controllers with the addition of a USB dongle from Microsoft - they cost bugger all from eBay.
No issues other then a goofy syncing process which I can never remember the order of.

    sounds good, link?

    • Sorry, something weird happened when I added a link to the image.

Link to deal is updated now.

  • thanks OP, just bought one!

    • thanks OP, just bought one too!

  • Silly question, But if I currently have my Foxtel Box hooked up to my TV in the living room and want to share foxtel in the bedroom I guess I plug the Foxtel box into the Screencast Sender unit and the bedroom TV to the Screencast receiver unit but how do I get Foxtel to display on the original TV in the living room when I want to watch it there? It doesnt look like there is any sort of pass through on the Sender Unit. Will I Still need to get a HDMI splitter for Foxtel to connect to my Living room TV and the Screencast?

  • Great deal - bought one. Sold out now - 400 units gone!

I had one of these kits die on me. Both ends just flashed blue twice and then paused for hours at a time.

I called Belkin and they organised a replacement kit after they couldn't find out what happened with them.

I play PS3 all over the house now :D

  • Nice, thanks OP. Had to pull the trigger at 380-odd sold.
    Hope it's an ok device!
Interestingly the manual seems to have:
    http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/MAN_F7D4515_8820-00863_RevA01_ScreenCastAV4[1].pdf
    Transmitter:

    B. Pairing button for syncing with other ScreenCast receivers
    • Allows you to add additional ScreenCast receivers

Anyone get 2, and can test??
(or is this a different model?)

  • That's quite interesting. So it's two dongles, one for each TV and they both plug into USB?

    • Think they're a 4 port HDMI in, and the receiver a HDMI to the tv.
Both units have a mini usb by the looks, assume for firmware upgrades etc.
Have to google to see if anyone has found any better use of the usb port :)

  • Bugger - this could have been a good way to stream ABC Kids (CH22) to the television in the kids playroom. Have being avoiding getting another antenna point put in!

    • Wouldn't an internal antenna do the trick too?

      • Most reviews I see of those things are questionable about their ability but I must admit I've never tried one with a digital signal. The better ones appear to be $50 to $80 so I'd want to know its going to do the job. Thanks for the suggestion.

Back in my day there was a thing called 'Locationfree' produced by Sony. 2005. Prior to slingbox taking off and all that. The problem was they weren't produced for the Australian market so the refresh rate configured was 120hz tailored to US monitors. Australian screens are 100hz so what you would get is this translation across the screen snipping a significant portion of the image, the sound signal was also faulty at best. It ran on the PSP well though. I didn't bother to sell the unit, it is probably still hanging around in some bag with cords. There was also an IR receiver and you could download the remote codes for the service you were watching. Unfortunately there were no codes available for foxtel (the closest if I recall correct was BskyB) so if you wanted to change the channel you were forced to do it manually. The idea was you could pair the locationfree unit with a wifi network and then the player would broadcast the signal through a specially configured gateway to your pc (so even when you were out of range of the home wifi network you could still gain access through alternative wifi networks). It was pointless though if you had no codes to change the channel.

I bought mine mailed in from the US, it was never sold to the Australian market.

I was desperate to watch programming from the bedroom and foxtel had yet to offer what is now known as 'multi-room' and IQ. I also didn't want cables (even if they were run through conduits) going through my premises.

  • thanks op
