Mirrorless Cameras (Canon EOS M)

Hey All,

Looking at getting a camera, i find a DSLR too large for what i want to do, which is grab a camera stick in my pocket and go… so looking at the mirrorless camera options which provide (give or take) DSLR quality pics in a pocket friendly shell.

in particular i like the EOS m (now with the firmware update) and i have found it for a very decent price:

anyone got one? my only dislikes are no view finder and flash, but it's probably the cheapest out of the lot of mirrorless cam's going around.

Thoughts?

Cheers.
Josh

  • Hi,

Yeah, also in the market for one too. Got a pocket Sony camera and love that fact its so compact, however the picture quality just doesn't cut it any more. Also looking for those DSLR quality pictures with a smaller form factor than the large chuncky DSLR's.

Was thinking of the Samasung Galaxy camera however read some reviews and they were average. Any camera experts out there who can recommend something great without breaking the budget?

  • that's the one, the EOS m at that price of $400 delivered is possibly sitting at best 'bang for buck' at the moment. I'm assuming Canon are moving the stock as the new one will be released soonish.

I guess what i'm trying to get out of it is what is the best bang for buck mirrorless cam at the moment, my research suggest the EOS m at the price point i found but hoping someone else may be able to shed some light.

  • How about the sony ones?

Around $500 US. This also come with inbuilt flash too.

Too many articles and opinions of which camera is better.

Ultimately were looking for something with
    1.) $500
    2.) Size/Form factor
    3.) Picture Quality
4.) Wifi would be nice for transferring (but not not a deal breaker)
    5.) Compatible with most lenses

  • If you want something that will literally fit in your pocket, I'd recommend the Pentax Q, which is tiny and shoots very nice 12-bit RAWs.
I have the Q 01 02 kit lens, and it's great for everyday carry around. This may be hard to find in stock because it got discontinued a while ago.
Or you can wait for the Q10 which is set to drop in price after the release of the Q7.

  • well went for a bit of a price hunt and no where would move on the Good Guys price of $597 for the EOS m twin lens kit plus flash i figured if i could get it locally i would get the AUS Canon warranty, decided to try Hardly Normal and got the kit for $565 i thought bugger it - that's X2 lenses and a flash with a camera (firmware updated) so why not.

Mucking around with it before, takes great shots out of the box and is actually very simple to use which is good for the misses.

little bit more than i wanted to spend but i figured OS wanted $400 shipped with 1 lens and no AUS warranty worth the extra coin for another lens + flash and AUS warranty.

    Cheers.

  • You missed out on this one which i posted a little while ago.
its the exact one that you bought :P
