  • probably no better than your mobile. Has no optical zoom, just like your mobile.

    what phone do you have?

  • Buy a cheap digicam
It'll take better photos than your phone and all of them take decent video these days.

  • Most decent handheld cameras also have decent video capturing. Eg. Canon Powershot s110, Panasonic LX-7. I actually use my LX-5 a lot for video taking. Just chuck a massive SD card in there and you're ready to rumble.

    • This is very true. The only downside is the shape is not always great for video capture.

  • What's your budget for this?

  • $100 would be too much.
Just want to be able to whip out a camera and capture passing moments without too much technicals, (just a big green "go" button would be handy), not creating Speilberg blockbusters but would like quality footage.
Pocket full of SD cards and rechargable batteries.

Want to be able to lift frames from the footage once back home to create a printed photo book/album via Snapfish, and save the footage for movie nights.

Looking at the Sony Bloggie (shudder) or similar.

    or this $39+$9 at JB - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101809

I like the clip - clip it to the back of your collar to record "where you've been"

Warning: fames taken from video will not come close to pictures taken as still images unless the camera shoots in a raw format (or at least, very low compression). You can still do this, but be careful with your expectations.

  • Thanks Bruce, Snapfish have a low quality limit for uploaded photos. Might send them an email.

I've been printing photobooks as a way of viewing photos, otherwise my computer just gets filled with photos that I never look at again, even if the quality is HD.

I print a book annually with highlights of the year. Copies go to parents.
And also books for OS trips - just need to simplify the capture part.

  • Maybe the Toshiba BW20 from DSE $99

Just use your iphone, it has better video quality than anything this side of $500. Buying a cheap video camera is a waste of money.

    • LOL - you should be able to pick up a Panasonic LX-5 for $350 and it will absolutely destroy the iPhones tiny lens and crappy microphone.
