I'm a full time uni student, would like access to the digital edition subscription but I'm finding the options very confusing. There is a uni offer for $30 per year. But… It seems there are TWO digital options: one is the standard digital thing that is typically $25 per month, and then there's the "Newspaper Replica" which seems to essentially be more like a .PDF of the whole paper, also $25 a month. I just want to use the iPad app, but I'm worried that the iPad app version for the Newpaper Replica version is a different app… Any advice on the tertiary offers available, or does anyone know if the login for the Newspaper Replica works for the standard iPad app?

When I was a student I found the idea of paying for something like this offensive.
Pax, there is a discount for Uni students which is $30 per year.

The problem is that it looks like a DIFFERENT form of access to the paper rather than the Digital Editions. It's confusing, because they interchangably use "Digital Editions" and "Newpaper Replica". I don't want essentially a PDF of the paper, I want tablet access - but I can't afford $21.99 per month and as a student should be able to access the student deal. I'm just confused. Wondering how other tertiary students navigated the whole thing.
You are right, it just looks like a website to logon to, and no app, as it isn't even hosted on the "SMH" domain.
2 weeks historical papers which is good.
https://smh.digitaleditions.com.au/faqs.php is a good reference and seem to indicate an "app" for it too, specifically mentioning the normal SMH/Age apps in the bottom question.
Your uni deal would get you the same access, so I think you are covered.

There is an IPad app for the Digital Newpaper Replica. This is a different app to the Digital editions app.
I am on the $30 per year Uni discount, I think the discount criteria is fairly relaxed for this.
Have you considered the New York Times Digital editions. Full Student access is $US15 per month.I rang SMH subscriptions, and sadly the only thing on offer right now is the "newspaper replica". Not going to bother with that, looks like the SMH won't get quoted in any of my assignments this semester. Monash offers free access to Crikey etc… will go that way.
SMH app only access on Android is $21.99/mth.
Are you saying IOS version is more expensive?
For $25/mth you should be able to get website as well as "app" access (and printed papers on the weekend delivered for no additional cost).
I content with their "award winning apps" description as mine crashes at least once a day, and it varies in its stability in each update of the app.
