Cheap but decent fridge

Hi all,

Our 520L Westinghouse Aurora is just about dead, and we need a new fridge! We are pretty strapped for cash atm and the credit card is nearly maxed so the cheaper the better. We definitely can't afford another 500L + so looking at something around 400L.

So far the only thing I have seen around the size/price I'm after is a Samsung SR430MW for around $700. Reading up about it I saw some bad reviews referring to noise and the fan seizing.

Can anyone recommend a fridge around 400L for less than $700? Factory seconds are fine, just want something 'decent'.

  • Can get the Samsung delivered for $687 from the Good Guys at the moment, not sure if there's any better deals or models around though?

  • Relative to most other brands, Samsung fridges are at the lower end, reliability-wise, according to Choice mag. I haven't read any reports of their fridges catching fire though - unlike their washing machines - so that's something…

  • Don't get a Samsung fridge. They're terrible.

    • Mine's great. So far…

      Should I be worried? :S

      • Refrigerators are still just about the most reliable of all the appliances that you can buy. Aside from recall-level issues, we're talking stats/percentages. Your fridge may not give you any grief for many, many years to come. :)

  • do you need new?

    • Prefer new, have had used for all our other fridges.

  • Does anyone know much about the brand 'Changhong'? Comes with 2 year warranty and extra 8 years on compressor, 408L for $575. Thoughts?
