I will delete my post When you find a brand new one for the same price.

You can't compare a brand new one to refurb one…this is a joke

Actually you would wonder why grays have so many refurbished ones, perhaps its because they have a lot of defective ones in the first place so buying refurbished (tested) isn't a bad thing.

I'm not interested in this bluray player but I have no problems buying refurbished items as they are tested by the manufacture and you can often save up to half the price for the same item that wasn't tested and may be defective.

And this is OzB after all.

my friend used to work for the department that tests refurbished units a few years back.

Apparently, the goods get tested well before they resell them as refurbs and The defective ones are disposed off

        • not for the intermittent one……. i work in manufacture sector before…..

      @congngo

      I agreed

Even with $20 vouchers , you still paying too much for refurb ones.

I will not take that $20 vouchers or even $40 vouchers especially from graysonline

Bought heaps of stuff from Grays over the years, many years ago (15) they sucked a bit, but these days descriptions are usually good and they are very conservative with listing any little scratch/dent to the point that sometimes you can't even see it (for auction items). They make an effort to fix many common problems (although every now and again they can be frustrating to deal with I admit).

As far as refurbs go, part of the issue is that big chains absorb the costs of d-heads that buy stuff and take it back for no good reason except they bought the wrong thing or didn't like it. They aren't allowed to sell these therefore they have to go somewhere (in this case Grays) which is better than landfill/demanufactured as far as recycling goes.

Sometimes you do get a dud with an intermittent issue that didn't get caught and it's a pain in the a$$, but many people on here are happy with a pain in the a$$ to save a few dollars/30% :-)

  • I'm looking for a 3D bluray player, but thinking if it's better to just buy a PS3 considering that the price has gone down (and maybe going even lower when PS4 actually comes out)

    • PS3 is good as a blu ray player but with 3D you won't get TrueHD.

  • I have one of these, paid $89 so this is a top price. Simple operation, XMB style interface makes things easy. Quick booting is nice, at the cost of extra power in standby mode. Although with blu-ray playback it appears there is a noticeable sandy grain in the picture.

  • Literally just got this player the other day for my partners brother. $80, with some haggling. Very good unit. It's region free for Bluray and DVD.

    • Region free blu ray? o_O

Seemingly. Tried my Region A version of Poor Pretty Eddie and it worked. The Sony box had a sticker on the side saying Bluray One or something, denoting - according to the HN sales rep - that it's region free for all.

I would like to buy one especially if it's Region Free for BR & DVD.

A bit sceptical because (historically speaking) Sony BR players have been next to impossible to hack (unless you have the hardware modded) and the fact it's a Harvey Norman rep saying it's Region Free doesn't exactly convince me. :(

          I gave you a +1 vote though. ;)

EDIT: Poor Pretty Eddie is marked as a Region A title, but it is Region Free BR (unless MovieTyme.com is wrong) :(

        • Ah feck, really? I personally own the Toshiba BDX3200, which is a multiregion 3D BD player. Hmmm, one I've got that I truly know is region locked is Vampire Circus. I won't be able to test it out on his system until tomorrow though. I'll report back.

        • bluray.liesinc.net says Vampire Circus is Region A (only).

A good BR disc to test.

    • for Soniq - check on soniq forum many complains no region free for dvd and blu ray……

  • Sorry guys haven't been able to check yet. Lots of circumstances getting in the way. I will try to get it tested soon.
