Because of the post earlier about the Navman on sale at DSE, I was researching GPS units and decided on getting a Garmin. Stumbled across the Bing Lee website selling the Garmin Nuvi 2597LMT for $209 where everywhere else has it for the full RRP of $249. Also includes free shipping, which is a bonus.

This is a new 2013 model and as per other brands, this also comes with "Lifetime" map and traffic updates.

  • Well spotted - nice unit.

just bought one by price matching at jbhifi. Very fast and responsive… Its greatest let down for me is that i cannot customize the type of data to display… eta, distance left, time left etc… you can only pick one or the other but not all data… also, Speed limit is only display intermittently at certain roads, cannot set sound alert when u travel above limit…Lastly, i miss the city center feature in tomtom; u have to enter all the address down to the street name and number…

  • I am waiting for the big-ass Garmin to come back into stock - Garmin NUVI 2797LMT

It was $238 a few weeks ago and I bargained them to $228. But no stock at the time and still waiting for stock to come in….

For what it is worth, I think you made a good choice with Garmin - they are certainly a hell of a lot better than Navman. I've had two Navmans and they are complete crap - never again. I've got an older Garmin already.

I have also heard TomTom are good, but never had one.

  • Thanks for the tips and reviews. I had a TomTom before and I must say I also used the City Centre feature a lot! It's going to be difficult without that feature (or just rather annoying).

I thought I'd try a Garmin this time because of the great reviews and the fact that I also love my Garmin bike computer.

    Let's wait and see.
