They sure do a good job of making it seem like a good place to go though.

      1. 75% chance of getting sick either directly or indirectly (through a friend/family member who went)
      2. Show bags are made to seem like a bargain, 100% of the time its junk that can be purchased cheaper elsewhere.
      3. Rides are overpriced, not very fun and are no where near as safe as theme parks.
      4. Any other products including food you buy is also cheap junk, most of the attractions/shows are also pretty bad.
      5. Entry is way overpriced, probably the worst part of it all.

      Basically an overpriced mosh pit.

If you want rides, go to dreamworld
If you want animals, go to a zoo

There are some reasonable reasons to actually go like some of the shows being decent, the animals etc, but in general its not worth it.

Yes I agree it's expensive, but Sam I think you're missing the whole fun social factor. It's like saying going to the movies is too expensive when you can wait a few months and rent it (or download for free!).

It's about going out with your friends and family and having fun. I'm too old for the ekka now, but I can still remember loving to go when I was a kid. If I had kids I'd take them.

You could go to theme parks and a zoo, or you can go to the ekka and have it all! And food are overpriced at theme parks too, not just at the ekka.

        • Agreed Obake! I love the Ekka - I've been going since I was a small child and LOVE being able to take my kids there and share the fun. Grandma and grandpa and uncles and aunties usually join us and we all have a ball.

The Ekka is entirely what you make it. We have a great time going round all the exhibits (cakes, crafts, art, photos, industries, government etc) and seeing the shows (dogs, wood chop, fashion, horses, lambs, cats, stunt cars, horse riding, fireworks etc). We take most of our own food and showbags - makes for better quality and less expense! We don't usually go on many rides, just a couple of sideshows, but we enjoy walking around watching them all at night. We have annual theme park passes so the rides don't seem that exciting in comparison! There is usually one or two crazy cheap items we get for kicks - $5 wigs/masks are great fun and always a hit. Who doesn't want to see grandpa with pink pigtails?!?

I've gone to the Ekka each year for the last 7 or so years because entry is fairly cheap and me and my mates/girlfriend make a day out of it. We visit EVERYTHING there though, most people just go for rides and showbags nowadays!

    Wood chop is bloody awesome!
