Hiring a trailer / transporting eBay / Gumtree furniture

Hi Ozbargainers,

How do you transport furniture that you have bought on Ebay / Gumtree ?

I am sick of paying 50 + $ trailer hire from the petrol pumps, but there aren't many options around, Bunnings are the alternative and their prices are also pretty much the same, if you hire for 4 hours or more it comes close to 50 $.

Are their any cheap trailer hire alternatives, what do you guys do if you do not have friends whose trailer you can borrow ? I am looking to hire a trailer for 6 to 7 hours and don't really want to spend 50 $ here in Melbourne.

      Smart comment girl, but show me anything on ozbargain that could be classified as a life issue for anyone.

      We are in the middle of redoing our entire house furniture on a budget, so need some form of transport every other month.

    Buy a stick of timber and use the bunnings trailer for free.

    I have used Abel rent a car (SE QLD only, unfortunately for the OP).
    They'll hire you a 24 hour ute for about $50. Helpful if you not that good with trailers :)

    Buy a trailer and sell it again when you are finished. If you are doing your own renovations this is one of your tools.
    Or get roof racks and only hire a trailer for bigger items.

      Melb Western suburbs.

      I ended up going with coles express purely for convenience / location, in-spite of the higher price.

      Next time I will use Trailer Dan, he seemed to a very reasonable guy, I spoke to him and he was very co-operative.
