Acer Aspire Windows XP Black Atom 8.9" Netbook - $400.85 After Cashback from Zazz

40

Zazz.com.au is offering the black Acer Aspire One 8.9" Atom netbook with Windows XP at less than $500 again. Get in quick as far as I know most of the prices on these netbooks are heading upwards. (Note will be being replaced by a 10" model.)

I have one of these, recommend it and it's far less than what I paid. Currently $449.85 + shipping - cashback. Cashbacks are paid by cheque.

Edit: As the commenter noticed - this is a 16GB SSD + Windows XP model (I have the hard drive model). Having said that it's still any okay if not so barnstorming deal.

If need 6-cell battery life then avoid, this has a 3-cell. 6-cell will set you back > $100. This unit is in effect a 10.1" unit, so has a effectively 10.1" keyboard and chassis, but smaller 8.9" LCD. I'd price this at $450, $470 max.

ASUS 900HA is a better buy at this pricepoint.. 8.9" with 4x2600ma (hi power) cell battery for $529 at mln.com.au (which OW could pricematch). If Aldi have their 10.2' Akoya E1210 3-cell (MSI U100 clone) for $499, it's also a better buy.

Otherwise suggest stretch for a 6-cell 10.2" MSI Wind U100 for less than $600 from fluidtek, msy or tecs.

    So gets a - vote.

No idea what you are talking about the 10.1" keyboard and chassis and 8.9" LCD? The AOD150 sure is the new Acer one with 10.1" screen…

    • Whoops.. apologies… at $399 it's OK. The unit advertised is a 8.9" LCD (with a big bezel) and 16GB SSD (not HARDDISK model). The SSD is slow and you can't put a harddisk into it. Only cheapish, if can call it, upgrade to speed it up is a runcore SSD module. ASUS 900A (not HA model) also uses slow SSD. Only reasonable read speed on SSD netbook delivered from manufacturer is the Dell Mini 9, but they cost ~$549. Better value to get a HDD model from the start, unless you like snail-pace.
