Free Weekly DVD Rentals with Donation of Can of Food for Charity - Australia Wide

90

Great charity event that has been running since 2007. Donate 1 can of food you get 1 free weekly rental, donate 2 cans of food and get 3 free weekly rentals. Great timing with the school holidays (and teach the kids about people less fortunate than themselves). All food goes to help those in your local community.

Participating stores in every state in Australia. For full list of participating stores….. http://cans4films.com.au/StoreLocatorNSW/tabid/75/language/e…

Ever been concerned that your donation does not end up where it is intended? Well this event is different, 100% of you donation will go to feed someone in need. If you don't want to watch any movies, there is also the option of dropping off a few cans of baked beans/soup to your local store as a gesture of good will.

Runs for the month of July.

I post a lot of deals, but this one means the most as it has the ability of helping others.

Cheers.

Do they accept used cans which are then filled with clean water?

    • Are you seriously going waste the first comment with a question like that? You do understand the word "charity"?

I was going to donate clean water…

        • I've seen canned foods some charities hand out and giving them water would be kinder. I donate on facebook to people in need. I hear alot of stories of decent people being treated very0 badly by the 2 big names. Local churches usually provide better service too.

        • Why would starving Australians want water that is available free from the tap?

FYI, each participating store around Australia chooses the charity to donate the collected cans to. This could be the local church, the Salvos, foodbank etc.

        • They dont. My comment below puts it into perspective. Donate something good.

    • People should donate even without free DVD rentals.

This is indeed a sad, sad World

      Neg well spent.

DVD? Is this the 20th century… why not send us a VHS?

    • If everyone had the NBN I would agree with you. Still a lot of privately owned video stores around Australia. (Just check out the list of participating stores) My 4 year old still watches a lot of DVDs and Blurays, so still a few years left until they go the way of the VHS.

Even if you do download your movies, feel free to drop of a few cans to help out the needy.

Looking at how many votes Hoyts Kiosk free-rental deals have been getting, I'll say that shining disc is still pretty popular around here.

Great cause by the way! Closest participating shop is however ~10km from my place though.

      • Yes but Hoyts Kiosks have blurays don't they?

        • Some of the stores would also have blurays as weekly rentals, but it would be store specific.

My local DVD store (DeVoteD DVD, 520 Plenty Road, MILL PARK, VIC) has heaps of weekly blurays as part of this deal.

FYI, Devoted DVD has also expanded the offer…

          1 can = 1 weekly rental
          2 cans = 3 weekly rentals
          3 cans = 6 weekly rentals

        • Based on the Hoyts Kiosks I use, most local video stores would hopefully have a larger range of blurays to choose from. Plus Hoyts deal is only for 1 movie, for 1 night, once a month, and does not help a worthy cause.

        • Just popped in to Devoted DVD in Mill Park and roughly counted over 800 bluray movies all available on the Cans4Films deal (free weekly hire).

This is for charity and to help out people less fortunate than yourself, but for those trying to do the math, my local Aldi has cans of Baked Beans for 69 cents. Though most people just grab an can or two that have been sitting in their cupboard. So that is 3 weekly movie rentals for $1.38 - and you provide a couple of meals for someone.

Though I am involved with the event, I do not actually work at a video store. I am personally going to buy a slab or 2 of food and donate it to my local store. I can't even imagine how bad it would be for those doing it tough and going hungry especially during winter.

  • This event helps remind people about the issue and helps get people involved. As the local video stores donate the cans to their local communities it helps spread the word about people needing help. We have also managed to get some good media about the event, which also helps spread the message.

    Ill donate tinned harvest stew.

Aldi baked beans spaghetti are nice but they get them alot please think of the children these foods mainly go too. Put something nice in. They rarely get meat so tinned ham or tinned fish or spaghetti bold to go with pasta and bread they get. Cans of mushrooms in butter sauce. Tinned fruits etc

The children who get these usually get it all year long so please think about them its not their fault in any way and they dont deserve it even if the parents might have. Most mothers I know need charity just struggle when big bills come in and that's all. Not something they did so dont have preconceptions

Can I donate a box of condoms instead? It might be more useful in the long run. After all, one condom can save 18 years worth of food.

      • Does that feed the children that are hungry now?

      • You can give it a try. I'm sure people struggling for cash also need these. I know previous years people have donated bags of pasta, bags of rice and even pet food. Struggling families could use these. (it is up to the individual store to determine what they will accept, but most are very open minded. After all it is for charity).

    • Kwaker. Good advice about trying to donate something a bit different.
