$30 off First Order @ HelloFresh ($34 for 3 Meals for 2 People)

This was posted earlier in the day, but got unpublished by an admin because the user was a first time poster and the deal contains a referral code. Figure it'd be worth putting it back here since it's a pretty good deal (and to prevent it from being reposted over and over again).

The trick is, you sign up for a subscription, so you will need to cancel it immediately after the first week. As far as their FAQ is concerned there doesn't seem to be any reason why you couldn't just cancel after your first box.

3 meals for 2 people = $5.67 per person per meal ($34 ÷ [3 x 2])
5 meals for 2 people = $6.90 per person per meal ($99 ÷ [5 x 2])

Code does not work for gift boxes.

N.B. commenter JohnHo mentions that they are offering 50% off at food shows, etc. so you might want to hold off if you think you might find them there.

"Give your friends a $30 welcome bonus for their first box and get $20 off when they order it"

Sorry to spoil the frenzy but I have benefited so much from this website that I WANT TO PROTECT the innocents!

For the past 3 days, this is already the 3rd posting (by different parties each time) about Hello Fresh's "generous discount".

"Word of Mouth" really is powerful, esp. when it comes with generous incentive to do so.

Personally, I took up the 50% off offer at Melbourne's Good Food & Wine Show last month for Vegetarian Meals for 2 people for 5 days (i.e 10 meals with receipe for you to cook with, all delivered in ONE single lot). I paid ~$44.50 for the vegetarian option.

My verdict: Not worth the $ even at HALF price due to veggie not fresh enough and the quantity is not enough too.

Mind you, they have GENEROUS referral bonus, something like $20 credit paying for your forthcoming order and your contact gets $15 discount. (OR it might be vice versa).

I think that's how they survive even though offering poor value for money!

      Ha!

I was about to say this looks like less of a bargain and more of a scam, it doesn't even sound like a good scam now.

      • Fair enough!

Having said that, this post can at least serve a purpose in informing other people, and preventing the continual reposts (as JohnHo mentioned). Otherwise if it keeps getting deleted as was happening before then it's just going to keep coming back like a bad rash.

I tend to think of OzBargain as the Wikipedia of Aussie deals and bargains, not just a list of good and epic ones - after all, one man's trash is another man's treasure as they say.

    • Interesting to know.

    • I can't really say much for the freshness, since I've only just signed up, but I imagine this may vary by area. Plus, that's more of a vendor verdict than any criticism of the deal itself. However, I've made note of your 50% off discount in the post.

Apologies if this is a repeat. It's the first time I've seen it. I guess a mod will come along and delete it shortly if it's in contravention of the guidelines (although a mod's been past to delete comments, but not this post), but AFAIK the only offense was that the previous people made was being first time posters.

Furthermore, by continually deleting it, there's just further risk that it will keep coming up again. I've tried to be fair by listing out the codes in the OP. EDIT: looks like even that's not allowed.

  • I had a 20 dollar red balloon coupon to use, so thought I would try this. My one time experience- vegetables did not stay fresh long enough to make meals within one week, there was no saving in prep time, expensive per head price (approx $8 per head after coupon, including one vegetarian dish). Only benefit: did give some new ideas for meals because I always lack inspiration; portion sizes were generous.

  • Out of interest, all you guys who have had not so good experiences, which city were you in? I wonder if it's a localised problem or not.

Strangely, the deleted threads had a few more positive comments, and the same when I posted this to my own Facebook timeline from friends who have used / are using this.
