Hi All,
Im looking to get a lumia 520 or 620, been searching allover in regards if they can be standalone GPS that dont require data.
going to be travelling to China,US and Japan and would be very handy when lost in the sticks of China.
anyone has a lumia can confirm it can be a standalone GPS when without a SIM
thanks
Most phones nowadays will have GPS connectivity even without cell network connectivity, and will continue to receive GPS sat. signals independently without the aid of 3G for assisted-GPS. According to Nokia forums, the Nokia Lumias will perform GPS navigation even without SIM installed, but the Nokia Drive application will tend to give inaccurate results when used offline with no internet. Do note that unless the phone has offline map data in it's storage, you won't be able to do any sort of turn-by-turn navigation or even look at the map.
