  • Most phones nowadays will have GPS connectivity even without cell network connectivity, and will continue to receive GPS sat. signals independently without the aid of 3G for assisted-GPS. According to Nokia forums, the Nokia Lumias will perform GPS navigation even without SIM installed, but the Nokia Drive application will tend to give inaccurate results when used offline with no internet. Do note that unless the phone has offline map data in it's storage, you won't be able to do any sort of turn-by-turn navigation or even look at the map.

    • GPS should be accurate, unless its triangulating location from phone towers without GPS.

  • Any phone with downloadable map content. I used my Galaxy Note in Singapore and Malaysia downloading an app called Sygic, and then all the map content I needed (international app). Probably cheaper than buying a new phone. Just make sure its compatible with your phone

    • I can find the price of it, how much is it?

Also I'm wary of a Map App when needs access your contacts & call logs.

  • Don't get the 520 if you are travelling. Can't remember details but vague memory- Nokia has good navigation but only 1 country for 520, international for higher models.

    Check it out.

  • I'm currently testing the Lumia 520 with WiFi off and without a SIM and it's pretty good. The GPS seems to track me along the tram route I'm taking to work. Not sure how correct the navigation directions are as I don't drive but it does give walking directions and time taken. Public transport as well if available (gives what tram number to take) but does not seem to show all possible trams (Eg I chose a route that has several trams passing it and it only showed one tram number, not the alternatives). If there are any other tests you would like me to do, just let me know and I'll see if I can test it more
