Hi today I took a drive up to Sydney now this has never happed but every time I drove past or was near police my phone whent * bing * I think it was my phone anyway has this happened to anyone else because I think its pretty cool also I had maps navigation open every time so if it was my phone would it have been emergency broadcasts or Google maps

Thanks for the reply, what I find weird as it worked fine even with 3g turned off and when it made the noises I didn't have to turn just yet maybe it was just a coinedence but like said only seemed to happen when there was a police car or police station within a few meters
how great would it be if nexus 4 was also a radar detector

The alert chime you here indicates is a prompt for an upcoming driving maneuver. It plays in places where the Text-to-Speech engine is either unsupported or unavailable, but it also may play if the data connection becomes flaky during guidance and Navigation isn't able to process a road name in time.
A ding means continue straight, a ding-dong means you'll need to turn.
