FREE Razer Surround Software for Windows (Gamers/Music) was $19.95

1090

From the creators of Razer Computer Peripherals; this offer is for a limited time only.

Razer Surround gives gamers the best virtual 7.1 channel surround sound experience with any stereo headphones.

Current generation virtual surround technologies are often inaccurate given that every individual has a unique response to simulated sound stages – as such, virtual surround sound is often regarded as inferior to discrete surround sound set ups.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the surround sound algorithms powering Razer Surround creates an unbelievably accurate surround sound environment and allows gamers to calibrate positional sound to match their own unique preferences. This level of calibration allows Razer Surround to provide an incredible level of precision in-game, allowing gamers to have the unfair advantage.

does this actually work in the way it describes? Sounds like a very poor imitation attempt

    • actually reviews by most of tech websites have been positives… I am definitely going to try this since its free…

    • it's free and you can give yourself a review?

  • Sorry for the noob question, but how should I enable the software after installing it?

    • By opening Razer Synapse 2.0 and then by clicking on the Razer Surround icon and running the sound calibration. You'll need a Razer synapse account if you don't already have one.

  • I don't get it, with good stereo headphones, you have very good positioning anyway?

    • +1

The human ear doesn't just position based on volume in each ear. Most of the positioning information is actually in the latency and sound differences of sound hitting the right or left ear.

So yes stereo headphones are good, but to improve positioning you need to have algorithms that simulate when the sound would hit your ear along with how much you hear.

      • As far as I'm aware it's just a latency difference for stuff on the same level, as well as pitch depending if it's moving.

If there is a vertical difference then the primary indicator of that is a change of timbre and as far as I know no game or software can implement that change.

        • There might also be frequency attenuation based on the sound having to travel around your head?

As in higher frequencies coming from the right are more attenuated on your left than lower frequency sounds. This higher frequency attenuation would drop off if the sound was above your head.

    • You'd have left and right, yes. This (should) give you in front/behind as well.

    All dem 'algorithms'.

dont download this, it bundles the crap synapse 2.0 software with it…
pretty much will screw up some razer peripherals like the orouboros.

    • +5

Doesn't bother me. I already used Synapse 2.0 to run my Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard. Without it can't run macros etc.

    • +3

For those unaware you can read why many dislike Synapse 2.0 here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1319323/razer-synapse-2-0-softwar…

      • Thank for the heads up, I will avoid this software set-up, and looks like Razer have some issues with how they treat their well paying customers.

I installed the surround sound program on my PC and after rebooting it bluescreens on boot, I went into safe mode and removed it and it's booting again. Funny enough when searching for the bluescreen message I found a few threads saying to remove your razer keyboard/mouse drivers. I guess it's a good thing I didn't pay $20 for it? Doesn't seem to like my PC :( Trying it on my laptop now but don't think it'll make much difference using the speakers on it VS the headphones on my PC. Oh well.

    • Wait, I have the Ouroboros (and having problems with the mouse if I use it wireless + wake up from Windows sleep)
So you are saying if I remove my Synapse 2.0 it will work fine?

      • yea, works perfectly without the synapse 2 crap. after you uninstalled it, unplug and replug the wireless station to make it work. You wont have the problems, but you cant use the macro either ( which i happily gave up)

    THIS WORKS.

In fact, it's absolutely incredible. It works even better than my actual 5.1 system.

I tried a few rounds of BF3 last night, and the I was laughing out loud because it was completely accurate and completely uncanny.

requires you to create a razor account to use (add your email account and activation). Didnt bother me, but FYI for other oz/b'ers

I will enhance my beats pro with my beats laptop and this razer surround will be an amazing combination.

    • Don't forget to buy EDX too!

    Operating System:

    No Vista love :(

    • it will probably still work though.

    • +15

Has there ever been love for Vista?

  • I'm using Xonar DG sound card and it has Dolby Headphones and the 7.1 Virtual Surround options which do a fairly good job of replicating 7.1, however, Dolby Headphones also adds other filters etc. into it which are great for movies but not so nice for games. I like the Razer 7.1 since you can really achieve 7.1 as well as fiddle with the other features like improved voice communication, more bass and wider sound stage. Definitely something to at least try out, then make up your mind about it.

  • thanks

  • Does this helps for music?

  • So just tested it on my Asus Xonar Essence STX and Audio Technica: ATH-AD900

Quite a major difference in games, the bass boost is great as well, Battlefield 3 sounds great.

Have to always remember to turn the bass boost/stereo enhancement for music though.

  • Thanks

  • I was incredibly skeptical about this but wow it actually does work really well!

  • I don't have a Razer Headset, but I do have a headset. However when I am setting up Razer Surround there is no option to select the headset I have plugged in it only gives me the option of my speakers. Any idea how to fix this?

  • Hi guys,
I see alot of serious gamers here but would this software help a music lover on laptop?

    • +3

I think for music a good pair of headphones is the key rather than emulation software like this. Also allows you to use it on your phone/mp3 device for good sound. :)

      • Thanks mate. Deal "pass" for me. Enjoy everyone

    • +1

No it won't, it makes it sound worse generally.

  • -1

Needs to sign up an account. No deal not doing it for spam

    • Razer doesn't spam email you. In fact i have a Razer account and i hardly ever get an email from Razer maybe once in a blue moon. Well it's your loss.

  • Does the software provide any advantage for a 5.1 headphone system?

  • +2

For music enthusiasts have a look at this thread:
    http://www.head-fi.org/t/447089/5-1-headphone-experience-foo…

Please take time to read through it all, there are some quite informative info posted as well as users posting their own setups (you may benefit or prefer one setup over another).

Note: This is intended for Foobar2k users

    • Thanks for sharing this!! It's awesome!

  • Thanks! This is great! It works very well in Arma 3. In the past I considered buying a soundcard with Dolby headphone support to get virtual surround sound. But I was too cheap.

  • +1

I have a ASUS Xonar DG soundcard + Steelseries Siberia V2 headset and upon using this software (once properly configured) heard a noticeable difference when using this for gaming (not music).

In fact, I have disabled the Xonar DG built in Dolby Headphone (7.1 surround) as it sounds very artificial… where as the Razer software sounds much more 'natural' and I can correctly and easily pick where sounds are coming from in FPS / MMO's :)

  • Woot!! I had the vote number 101 :)

  • im going to test this on my work computer before going for it at home

UPDATE: doesn't do anything with the music, my ATH-M50's sound better without this, I guess I will try again at home on my gaming PC and see if it improves the Siberia V2's in game
