Dick Smith: Apple Airport Extreme Base Station 5th Generation $99 (in Store OR Click & Collect)

490

Was selling $199, or $149 for refurb.

If you don't need 802.11ac feature supported by new airport extreme or just dislike the new shape, this looks like a good deal.

Updated
According to @Raima, DSE has time capsule 2tb for $149, I went to DSE burwood myself, confirmed they have 3 in stock, if you are interested, please ask in stock.

Highly recommended. I use this with a hard drive attached for Time Machine.

  • Thanks OP.

There are plenty stock in chatswood, burwood and parramatta. It only takes 5 seconds to check the stock by entering your post code.

i did do a search with 5 different postcodes, places around Vic i travel for work. 'low' and 'no stock'

        • +4

Bad luck for you, what can I do about it?

        • -1

Nothing, it doesn't change the fact its still only available in limited locations.

    • +2

I agree the OP should do a quick search and make sure stock is avaialble, but there is no need for the OP to list all the places where stock is available.

I generally make sure at least 12 or more stores have stock before listing.

    • @unity1 I did search surrounding areas, and ordered one myself.

      • I know. Well done you got a great deal.

    • I saw at least two on George St but opted for the 2TB time capsule for an extra $50

  • +2

I just paid $149 for the 2tb time capsule at Dick Smith on George St. 1 left unless they have more in the back

    • Well done. Seems DSE has removed time capsule from the website, you are very lucky to find one in store.

    • 2Tb time capsule Dick Smith George St all gone.

Only one 3Tb time capsule left for $249.

    • Same, got a one from the Greensborough Vic store. They had 2 left.

Its a good deal. I bought at full price last year and even though I have subsequently upgraded my adsl modem to Billion 7300VDPX, I still find the AEBS wifi to be more stable and reliable. If you don't grab it now, you're nuts.

    • I have the same Billion (wicked piece of hardware), so I use my Time Capsule to extend the wireless network upstairs. Works perfectly.

One of the most stable routers I have used. Good find and great price.

    • +1

Ditto on that. Went from a Belkin to this – don't regret it. The Time Machine backups have saved my ass many times too.

  • Can't find anyway, all gone by now

  • +1

Thanks for sharing. Picked up the last one in Queen St Mall, Brisbane.

Don't know why you're getting negged for warning people.

  • really good price

  • I just picked up a 2tb time capsule at the Perth (Wesley) store. I didn't take the router I had ordered - so that is one more for someone; I'm not sure how many time capsules they had.

    • I did the same, 2tb hard drive alone cost about $100!

    • just a follow-up: if you have any sort of mac use that to configure your new airport. I found the windows software terrible!

Usual Dickie deal, says in stock online, placed a click and collect order and then got a call 2.5 hours later saying they never had any in stock and actually -2! WTF? What a joke!

    • Are you in Sydney? Call burwood store, I went there at 13:00 they still have stock.

  • Any point getting this if I don't have any apple products? What can it do that a $98 Netgear WNDR3700 can't do?

    • +2

Generally speaking, the reason to get Apple networking gear is that it's rock solid stable with good wireless performance and dead-simple to use (automatically detects and resolves issues like double-NAT, can extend/join networks in one click, etc.)

They're not very feature-rich, however, so especially if you're a OpenWRT/DD-WRT/Tomato/Gargoyle fan then you're unlikely to want one.

      • Sounds like a good router for Granny, or good as an extra access point. Just did some research to find that performance wise it's pretty much like a WNDR4000. So for $99 not bad.

        • It has three access points, 2.4G/5G, plus a guest network.

      it is shiny (woaaaaaaaaa)

it has an apple logo on it (ooooooooo)

it connects… to the internet!! (yayyyyyyy)

      • The above sounds just like a child having a tantrum….. :)

For the others. Thanks picked mine up, then just on the off chance, asked about the time capsule. Yep one left, box a little marked so got it for $120

        • i got the skit from watching some old madtv clips on steve jobs :p

boy i do miss steve jobs announcements… that wow factor is gone :(

  • Sorry correct me if i'm wrong

    but airport extreme A$119 RRP

  • No stock in Canberra, as usual with these "deals"

  • Got time capsule from melbourne CBD. None left

  • Got the last Airport Extreme Base at Westlakes, SA just that the box is open for display however the router itself is still fully wrapped in plastic.

  • JB Hifi etc still have this model in stock. Reckon they'd price match on Dick Smith when DS don't even have stock?

    • I doubt so, they might have to give DSE a call to verify.

  • Is it just a router or modem and router in one?

  • Thanks OP great deal.

  • Bought one and just loving the stability of the 5 GHZ vs my old 2.4 GHZ router :) Used to get transmit speeds varying between 5 and 60 MB/s, now its locked to 81 and won't budge. Plenty fast enough for HD movie streams. Won't need the 802.11ac standard for a couple years so this price is a total bargain.

  • Just grabbed a time capsule from bankstown. They have one more left

  • Picked up a 2TB time capsule at Erina. They still have a 3TB one and there's a good chance that another 2TB one remains. $149 for the 2TB.

  • Is this deal still valid? Noticed $119 on DSE online now

  • No stock in Perth, on back order no eta

  • Hi all
There are still a few of the older version 2tb time capsules around the melbourne dse stores. Make sure the store stocks apple and ask at the counter for an xb1001 if they don't have it they can let u know where the stock is. The staff member was more than happy to help me and I scored one for 149 today not to many left but definitely a few around west melbourne stores. Still a good buy. Good luck!
