Best Baby Formula

Hi,
My bubz is 4 month old and is starting to hate NAN HA.
Was wondering what would be the best baby formula in terms of nutrients?
For 0 - 6 months, and 6 month - 1 year.

Some popular brand are:

S26 Gold
Nestle Nan HA Gold
Karicare Aptimal Gold
Heinz Nurture Gold
Bellamy's Organic Infant Formula

Thanks,

All of the modified cow's milk formulas have adequate nutrients/energy for babies. Is your child eating anything besides the formula (e.g. are you still breast feeding as well, or started any solid foods?).
If a child that young is 'hating' the formula and that is all they are eating I would be concerned, if by hate you mean not having any.
If you mean they are favouring another food source over formula, 4 months is a bit early for solids, but if that is what your baby wants then I'd be inclined to let them, providing you are confident they are getting enough healthy food to eat (and not junk food/sugary foods). If they are wanting more breast milk, again, that is good.
All the formulas taste much the same, and the main difference is marketing.
Your baby will almost certainly eat enough if you present healthy food (breast/formula/solids) unless they are unwell. But you know your baby best, is it changing its eating pattern in a way that is concerning, or just getting older and starting to play with a bottle instead of just drinking etc.

    • Our 4 month is mostly on formula and takes about 600 - 700 ml a day, but its a struggle feeding him formula.
Baby is also on some solid, we got the Heinz 4 month baby food which he will eat, but doesn't love it either.
He just wants breast milk, but we don't have enough supply.

Sounds like he is going great. If he wants breast milk, give him all you can, it is the best for him.
If he is still hungry he will eat other things. If you want to talk to the experts, the ABA (Aust Breast Feeding Association) has a free help line which has qualified experts to help answer any questions. They will be happy to discuss your kids feeding habits and won't be judgemental. They can be contacted on 1800 686 268

        • Thanks.

      • try breastpump during the period you're not feeding him.

the more you breastpump, the more you'll get.

        • Yes, she is doing this..

  • All my 3 girls were/is on S26 Gold from day 1 (I wasn't able to breast feed at all). My oldest is 12 years old now and my youngest is only 1 month! I was told by my mother that I was on S26 also when I was a baby … many many many years ago! All my girls had/has no problem with S26 Gold, all very healthy, no allergies….
I haven't tried any other brand, and I haven't compared any nutrients contents. But I guess it all depends on the baby, I don't think there's one best formula milk. What about buy one tin of whatever brand and give it a go?
Also, when you said your bub hates NAN .. it could be he/she actually hates the bottle or the teat, not the content of the bottle?! Good luck.

  • Wife couldn't feed very well after about 2-3 weeks of new born due to mastitis, so I backed her decision to go to formula.
We used the Nan Ha right from the start. As this was our first, for quite some time we just thought he had a bit of reflux and put up with his irritability and nappy smells!!!
Turned out a lot of people were having similar issues, and worse, with this product since they changed the formula of the product.
I think we changed another 2 or 3 times after that. The Karicare Gold was was alright, but we found he was best with the Heinz Nuture. He drank more, had better stools and much more settled.
Unfortunately I think it'll be a little bit of trial and error for you as to which he/she prefers and is best settled with.
    Good luck.

    • Ps. Our little man is almost 1 and we're trying to incorporate cows milk by mixing it in with formula.
Question to the ladies (and gentlemen), Can you mix breast milk with formula in the same way? And do you think this may be an option for the OP 'congngo'?
