DGTEC DG-HD1609 Hi Def Set Top Box USB PVR New $22 Pickup Clayton VIC, $34 Delivered

90

I am tired of missing Rockwiz while putting the littlies to bed on a Saturday night and our TV's don't have PVR functionality, so I went looking for a cheap PVR. This is the cheapest price I can find for a HD PVR, and it's local for me. Crazy Stu has them for $55, Bing Lee for $49, so this is a bargain. Definitely not the best PVR out there, but for $22 pickup I'm prepared to throw it away when it fails in a year or so and upgrade to a TV that not only records TV and has every android app under the sun pre installed on it, but also does oil changes on the car and puts the bins out for me. I found it via Ebay, but I can't find the device on their website, so I'd advise calling ahead before picking up to verify stock quantities. And yes, it comes with the remote. I hope this is useful to some people, thanks for reading.

Edit: Please note that the antenna signal that "passes through" the unit is extremely weak when the unit is switched off. My TV signal quality/strength goes from 10/9 to 3/2 when the unit is powered down. It will be ok if it's your primary method of viewing TV. A splitter would probably be a better idea and will add to the cost.

  • That seems like a good Set Top Box. Only thing is that it has an output of 1080i, but for the $$ it is a good buy. It can only take a USB HDD and no internal space for one. For a bit more you can get an ASTONE set top box/ DVR with space inside for a HDD and output of 1080p.

    • Digital TV is only 720p/1080i, so there's not much point in having 1080p on a set top box.

      • The point of having Full HD output is that the video and audio is sent through to the TV in the best resolution possible (provided that you have a full HD TV) and as such the TV doesn't have to upscale. Some people have issues with video/ audio sync. A good Astone box with USB 3.0 and internal HDD space, plus network video streamer etc is for $99.94 delivered: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Astone-Media-Gear-MP-310DT-1080p-…

        • I understand what you're getting at Logical, but I just want something simple to record one particular show that I keep missing. This box fulfills that need. The Astone seems a quality unit, but at nearly 5 times the price (plus hard drive) it's definitely out of my budget.

    • Have you got a link for the Astone, Logical? I'm not too fussed about the lack of internal drive space or the output resolution (it's for the bedroom TV, and will only be used for light recording), but I would like the smallest sized box I can find - I'd like to tuck it up behind the TV if possible to keep the dresser uncluttered.

  • Has all the features of the Xbone except its not 1080p and no blu-ray drive. Not bad at all.
