Officeworks refused to price match UMart

just came back from OW on Pitt street. this guy refused to price match umart for the wedge mice. the reason is umart's stuff are grey imported and do not have the full warranty.

i bought the wedge kb last week without any issue. it seems they only recently find the "loophole" to defend their price.

anyone (in sydney) successfully get the umart's price beaten by OW RECENTLY?

They should be pricing matching IJK if exact same product & not attached to any promotions or add-ons, I would definitely take it further to OW head office or fair trading/ ACC

  • i checked ow's website for the condition of pw.

"What items does the 5% reduction apply to?
All products stocked at Officeworks that are in stock at our competitor, so long as the product or service and its terms and conditions are identical."

note that as long as the product or service …. are identical.

as umart only provides rtb warranty, ow can argue the services (warranty) are not identical.

please let me know my understanding is wrong.

btw, the more experienced guy told the new employee that shopping square and some other retailers are also blacklisted as grey importers.

Officeworks and Harvey Norman just don't like it when they're caught out applying a 100% markup.

Afaik, OW (and every other retailer) offers RTB warranty, seeing as how it's an integral part of consumer law. Some have a pick-up courier service for more expensive products like laptops but that would only apply if that was offered on the price-matched products.

Also, all Umart's products have full manufacturers warranty unless specified otherwise. Doesn't sound particularly grey-importish to me. MSY on the other hand…..

  • Yeah I got them to price match the wedge keyboard for $49 around 1-2weeks ago also got them to pricematch a wireless touch mouse for $33 from msy. Personally I've never been turned down for a price match, they generally are really easy going about it.

If you can try the Bondi(Price matched umart here) or Liverpool(Orange grove) store.

Office works would not price match identical notebook for sale at Aust post. They claimed that theirs ran win 8 and the other one was win 7. So I bought it at aust post saving $130 approx. It was win8. Didn't bother to go back as they were rude when I requested price match.

    • talking about rude….i learned a new lesson. one guy working in computer section of the The"Good"Guy bankstown store was very rude.

  • Go JB and price match with umart plus delivery.

  • I was refused a pricematch at OW on some Logitech speakers a while back. Certainly wouldn't accept my arguments then about identical product/warranty/bricksandmortar presence.
Suffice it to say, I could have done without the 25 minute drive to Umart to where I placed an 'online' order on their courtesy terminal and then collected the speakers, but so be it.

Irrespective of whether things have changed a OW or not as regards Umart pricematching, it certainly didn't engender a good feeling about Officeworks at the time.
