Looking for a decent 4-bay NAS - any suggestions?

Currently looking as a birthday present for myself and husband, to get a 4-bay NAS that will hold minimum 4x3TB. Not specifically looking for top of the range, just something reasonably priced that will do the job. Does not need to come with HDD as looking at purchasing those sort of one at a time.

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Happy to purchase from Melbourne or online.

  • HP Microserver N54L - it can be a NAS and so much more! Can be had for around $240 or less during sales from places like ShoppingExpress.

  • I own a Synology DS-413, but the DS-413j is the cheaper "home" version of that model. I am very happy with the device thus far and have 3x2TB WD RED drives in it right now (didn't need the extra storage at this time).

  • Wouldnt recommended the MicroServer unless your willing to do some tinkering.
For simple set-up and go, get a QNAP or Synology, can't go wrong. Set and forget.
If you are prepared to spend more tech time with set-up and configuration then the MicroServer would be a cheaper options.

    • kinda why i didn't open my mouth about the N54L, not everyone is up on setting up the software themselves…. But if you can its your best option for spec and price…(i use a N40l as a media centre and media streamer)
