Home Sercurity System

Hey Guys
Anyone know a good Home Sercurity System to get?

Also how much would I be looking at?

On a side note - Anyone tried the D-Link DCS-932l Network Cameras?

  • I was checking out the DCS-932L the other day - most of the reviews for it say it's pretty average/crap and that there are better cameras out there. From a quick glance at Whirlpool, people seem to recommend the Foscam's as a budget camera.

Keen to hear what others have to say, I'm looking for a security setup myself.

  • Thanks and look forawrd on the Security from other members

My setup is a 24/7 online desktop computer with a $240 Dahua IPC-HDB3200C 2MP HD 1080p 30fps Security Camera (amazon) at the front and a kogan $50 camera at the side. I'm using i-Spy software to manage and do motion recording with them.

There really aren't many other solutions that work well without connecting to a computer.

Almost all the cheaper cameras are going to be useless for identifying a person that is unknown to you and police. This includes d-link etc.

You can use the footage from d-link, kogan etc to:
Use as evidence that something happened
Identify someone that you or the police already know about.
Find out if someone is looking around your house in preparation for a break in.

  • I have a Foscam 9181 I think it is but was just wondering if the D-Link would be better as they are $58 atm

On the Alarm side. Was looking at a Wired Bosch System with 8 Sensors and 2 Keypads but was quoted way over $1k

Now thinking about a Wireless Bosch System, would it be cheaper and work just as good?

  • hi, how do you like this one?

      1. MJPEG is poor quality/performance.
      2. Built in wireless will generally degrade fps a lot.
      3. Picture quality is quite poor anyway so don't expect too much.

It is an outdoor waterproof camera, besides that I wouldn't think its any better then then Kogan $50 camera. (My Kogan camera is outside but under cover)

Edit: And I just realised I put effort into responding to a rep…

    • Only if you want an old analogue system that is low quality, expensive to maintain and offers little features.

These are useful as a deterrent and to see if something has been at your house.

A computer + IP Cameras is the way to go these days.

      • Thanking you mate
