Went in to DSE to buy a SD card and found a Nikon J1 in the specials bin with 50% off the marked discount price. Checked with the Manager and he confirmed that it was $148.50. He said that all the stores that he knows of are getting rid of any "older" cameras and higher priced electrical items in this way. No idea how long they will have it on sale but I would guess June 30th so that they have less stock to count & write off for the stock take.

There were other cheaper digital cameras in the numerous specials bins and so I would recommend going in-store to have a look around. There were also a number of Sony and Yamaha Blu-Ray player + 5.1 surround speaker systems, Sennheiser headphones, iPad & iPod speaker units - all with 50% off the already discounted price.

    $17 for 16gb USB 2.0 is overpriced, you should visit ozbargain more frequently!

    Moots - sorry mate. I only searched on titles when looking for dupes. I did not go into the comments. I was not able to find any other titles with this camera for less than $150. Figured that I would bring it to people's attention if they were not aware that such a bargain could be had. Cheers.

    ygyf - I was looking for the small form factor to sit in the head unit of my 2 cars. I checked StaticIce before heading out and Shopping Square has them for $12 (not a fan of them) and there are a bunch of places that have them from $11 to $14 each but all of their delivery charges made them significantly dearer than Dick Smith (one place was charging $17 for postage!). Plus I wanted them this weekend. So yes I agree that there are much, much cheaper 16gb/USB2 sticks out there but the physical size of this model suited my needs. :-)

      Thats no worries. Yeah the reason why it wasn't posted as a deal was because of the low stock at most stores. Most of them do not have any so you sure are lucky. I would love to get my hands on one if you would do me the favour :)

    Just made my way to the West Burleigh store and I can confirm there's no stock at all on the Gold Coast. Bummer.

    So, I guess calling Dick Smith and being told there's no stock is not enough in most cases (as they check store stock many kilometres away from where you live)? You actually have to visit the store?

    Not to be a partypooper but I'd say you're the only person who got lucky and managed to get one.
    I don't this counts as a deal because there's not enough stock. If more people manage to find stock, I'm happy to admit I was wrong.

    Also, regarding your small form USB, MSY has these for $14

      There's a few about, I got the J1 twin lens kit for $167.25, there was still a single lens kit left (Runaway Bay QLD)
