Pizza Stone Set with Cutter $8 (Aldi, Starts Wednesday 12th June 2013)

260

At one stage I was looking for a proper stone set for some pizza cooking at home. I never bought one because those I saw were too expensive. This seems like good deal especially since it seems to come with a rocker-cutter (technical term?).

$8 Pizza stone available in round (33cm diameter) or rectangle (38 x 30cm) and includes a wood handled pizza rocker

The natural clay base ensures even heat distribution for a crispy crust, Aldi says.

Alternatively, you can buy the bamboo serving thing for $8 (showing on the same page). I'm still trying to work out how I'd use this, so I think the stone set is most practical and appealing.

    rocker-cutter (technical term?)

It's an attempt at a mezzaluna.

I've got a pizza stone from a previous sale (think it was $10 then) so this is a good price. Good for thin crust pizzas.

    • I guess the bamboo serving board could be good for some of that mezzaluna action.
      Thanks for the link!

A rocker cutter is totally different to a mezzaluna. Rocker cutters are what's used to cut your standard pizza but you use mezzaluna for smaller items.

Rocker cutters are the bomb and dominant cutter in pretty much every pizza store I've seen. Source - worked in Australia's biggest pizza franchise since I was in my middle teen years.

  • might try one

These rectangle Pizza stones are the only rectangle pizza stones I've ever found IRL in Australia there excellent if you'll ever think you'll get in to bread making.
They do an excellent job on the hand shaped loaves and rolls I make.
and if your just gonna throw freezer pizza on them too they do much better job than cooking on the rack or cookie sheet.

Just made some Stromboli on it last night thinking about picking up two more as they have a tendency to crack (all of these "fake stones do" if your spraying steam in the oven when baking bread for a crustier crust

That "bamboo serving thing" may be a good pizza paddle/peel for transferring your dough onto the stone too. Assuming, of course, that you'd be making your own.

    Some good techniques in http://www.fornobravo.com/brick_oven_cooking/brick_oven_tech…

    • Makes sense, thanks.

Although I bought a peel from aldi to try out I found It's significantly easier to use a completely flat or upside down cookie sheet and some baking paper. Roll out your dough on the counter fold into quarters rip some baking paper the size of your pizza stone and put it on the cookie sheet unfold your dough on the baking paper top and then slide the pizza on the baking paper in the over on the pizza stone. Works excellent slides easily and when the pizza is done it seperates from the dough with no issues. The paper will get a little brown on the areas where the pizza isn't touching it but catch on fire.

also a benefit using this method you won't need to apply corn meal/polenta or some other gritty food stuffs to the bottom of your pizza so it can slide off the peel.

I use these quite often. Really good and heaps cheaper than other pizza stones!!

  • Bought mine today. I'm pleased with the quality.
Managed to snag some $5 towels too.

  • wanted to get 3 of the rectangle ones but they only had 1 that didn't have any hairline cracks in it.
oh well they'll come along again some time.

  • Unless you are making the pizza from scratch, stone is not neccessary. I have one and much prefer the results (for frozen pizza) of pizza put straight on oven rack with nothing underneath. Woolies Select Pizza made in Italy- Yum!
