Let the discounting on the Panasonic DMC-G5 begin as the DMC-G6 starts to make its way around stores at the sky-high prices. We all know that $398 US dollars for the Panasonic DMC-G5 with kit lens is a far better deal than $750 USD or so for the new one, right?

That's why you buy cameras as they're being run out like this.
B&H are saying that the camera is on sale until June 10 (US date) so it should last until Monday on our end.
Enjoy.

Edit B&H have extended the deal.

  • How does this compare to something like this?
    Pentax K-R w/ 18-55mm Lens for $365 shipped

    http://snapsort.com/compare/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-G5-vs-Pentax…
Aside from the 1080P on the panasonic - any other key differences to justify the price?

    • +1

      movable lcd versus not
      higher-definition lcd versus not
higher-definition (full hd) video versus not (and Motion JPEG with the Pentax; old school)
      mirrorless smaller body versus not
      electronic shutter option versus not
      16 megapixels versus 12
image stabilisation in-lens versus in-body (Pentax)

Heaps of other things to compare.

Pentax has an optical viewfinder which is superior in low light and fast action without a hint of delay, like all DSLRs, which is an advantage, but DSLRs tend to have clunky live view modes due to the flipping mirror present in all DSLRs and they don't display the rich content an electronic viewfinder can.

All depends what you want and what type of shooting you do, and your budget (and what you are used to, and the prices of any extra lenses you may want, and…).

    • Size.

      • more lenses

    • -2

Smaller lenses, but also smaller lenses.

  • deal has been extended

  • Looks like B&H have upped it to $498. Marking expired.
But I have little doubt it will go back down again :)
