  • Picked one up tonight at Harvey Norman. Mine has a price tag of $129.95 on it. Was thinking of posting when I got home.

I needed a door bell for my long house and have been keeping an eye on this. Cheapest I had seen was $89. This way I can put the phone in two locations and should be able to hear the doorbell anywhere.

One to point out - this is the bell is huge and white. Some people will not like this, but I have a small black bell now and delivery people do not see it. They knock and walk away. I don't think anyone will miss this, so it is a us for me.

    • Delivery people rarely ring door bells in my experience. I have a sign pointing to a common type of door bell button but they still ignore it.

I put a relay into the wired door bell, that connects to the wireless phone's base - across the switch contacts (the switch you press to find the handset). Pressing the doorbell button rings a very loud bell & sets off the wireless phone's different ring "page" function. A cheap but effective solution, but you have to go to the door to talk to the person.

    • Does
      The bell run off batteries?

      • The outdoor bell button (with loudspeaker) runs off 2 C cell batteries, or you can wire it up to 12 volts.

  • damn! i paid $89 for this just last month.
It does work extremely well though - very huge range. Door bell unit runs of c-size batteries.

  • Is the door bell unit water proof?

    • It states not waterproof, but is vague about the door bell.
I think under an eave would be fine. A few small holes in the front of the door bell for the intercom speaker.

  • For those who already own one: How strong is the door bell signal?
I've got a "up to 100m" wireless door bell, that struggles to make 5m (due to my double brick "wireless-proof" walls).

    Here's a link to the manufacturer's site.

    • @Chris McMahon Will try to test tomorrow for you if you are interested.

        Absolutely. Thanks.

        • Ok. Just had a play with the unit before mounting.
At moment I have the bell at the front and the main unit about 20m away 3 brick and one plaster wall in between.

Then went for a walk with the hand set about 70m from the bell (50m from the main unit) and it still rang and I could use the intercom.

FYI, my wifi struggles over the same distance and I have had to install a repeater. So I guess this is better than wifi.

It would be worth you trying and possibly take back if your walls are too much for it. And for $49 seems better value than my old bell.

        • Thanks.

One interesting thing I have read in the instructions. You can hook up 12 volts to the door bell and also hook it up to an electronic door/gate. lock.

FYI: These doorbell/phone sets can have up to 4 handsets, plus the doorbell. Unfortunately Uniden don't sell compatible handsets by themselves.

You can however buy a 2nd complete set, like I did, and end up with 4 handsets and 2 doorbells.

Since you're limited to a total of 5 handsets per system (the doorbell counts as 1 too) I kept the 2nd doorbell as a backup.

I'll also say that the range of the doorbell is better than any other battery powered wireless doorbell I've tried.

For $98 total, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

    • Are these coded in any way? Do they need to be linked?
From your explanation, if my neighbor bought the same deal we could have issues?

All 4 phones ring if the door bell is pressed?
All 4 phones ring even though only one base station is connected to a telephone line.

      Very curious.

and I agree, best range door bell i have owned.

      • You need to register the extra handsets on the original set, but that takes about 5 minutes. It's in the manual.

Yes, all four handsets will ring if the doorbell is pressed. You can also use them as an intercom to call specific handsets ie handset 1 can call handset 2 and only handset 2 will ring.
