Hey everyone,
First time poster here, and I wanted to find out if anyone knew of any good hunter valley deals? I'm planning to surprise the gf by taking her there around the first week of august, and I was looking to do something like this:

But that's a bit pricey…does anyone know of anything similar? maybe a wine tour instead of ballooning?

Do a wine tour. I did one with a company called "Shadows" - just an old dude and a bus. It was great because it was just me and my GF and it was $100 for the entire day - his prices are set and obviously no one else wanted to do it that day, but he didn't cancel. one of the first places we went to had a huge friendly St Bernard which was fun.
If you don't have accommodation I can highly recommend Eaglereach Wildnerness Resort - it's at the top of a mountain, has incredible views, huge cabin-style houses and tons of native wildlife wandering around.

Also, one man clan, did the tour pick you up from your accommodation?
Yep. The place was probably 30 min drive from the main area of the Hunter - he drove all the way up there, around all day then dropped us at our door.
I didn't eat out but there are some hatted restaurants around. Probably exxy though. There was a christmas in july dinner that we went too at the resort - only made it to the first course though (as my girlfriend was ill) which was delicious.
I too thought about the ballooning thing but it's bloody pricey. Plus there was that balloon accident recently (in like Egypt or something? Freaked me out though).
Why dont you try groupon or alike. I just googled tours last year and found heaps kangariffic were cheap
