Hunter Valley weekend getaways?

Hey everyone,

First time poster here, and I wanted to find out if anyone knew of any good hunter valley deals? I'm planning to surprise the gf by taking her there around the first week of august, and I was looking to do something like this:

http://www.redballoon.com.au/flying-experiences/hot-air-ball…

But that's a bit pricey…does anyone know of anything similar? maybe a wine tour instead of ballooning?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Why dont you try groupon or alike. I just googled tours last year and found heaps kangariffic were cheap

  • Do a wine tour. I did one with a company called "Shadows" - just an old dude and a bus. It was great because it was just me and my GF and it was $100 for the entire day - his prices are set and obviously no one else wanted to do it that day, but he didn't cancel. one of the first places we went to had a huge friendly St Bernard which was fun.

If you don't have accommodation I can highly recommend Eaglereach Wildnerness Resort - it's at the top of a mountain, has incredible views, huge cabin-style houses and tons of native wildlife wandering around.

  • Thanks for the replies guys, I'll be checking out all your suggestions. Any good restaurants that are not necessarily pricey but date-worthy that you can recommend?

Also, one man clan, did the tour pick you up from your accommodation?

    • Yep. The place was probably 30 min drive from the main area of the Hunter - he drove all the way up there, around all day then dropped us at our door.

I didn't eat out but there are some hatted restaurants around. Probably exxy though. There was a christmas in july dinner that we went too at the resort - only made it to the first course though (as my girlfriend was ill) which was delicious.

I too thought about the ballooning thing but it's bloody pricey. Plus there was that balloon accident recently (in like Egypt or something? Freaked me out though).
