Hi
I am interested in joining the gym, any recommendations, deals, tips etc?
If it turns out that when I join you get free months, let me know too, in case the benefits has to go to someone, it might as well be someone here.
Cheers
Sam

I've been looking around for a gym also.
Do your research … Find out cost, and work out what facilities you want (gym, gym/pool, gym/pool/classes, etc.)
Then also try to check it out at peak times (typically late afternoon early evening on weeknights) to make sure the gym has enough equipment and doesnt have too many members.
At the moment I'm considering Zest health clubs, but I refuse to pay a joining fee.
Apparently last september they were offering full 12 month memberships for $390.
I checked their prices out in Dec 2008 and they were: $649 for 12 months (with no joining fee).
This year they are $698 with half price joining fee if you sign up with a friend.
Anyway I checked out at least 6 gyms and got a tour of the facilities before deciding on which one suited me best … now I've just got to wait for a reasonable deal.
At the moment I'm on a $30 for 30 day trial membership, but I won't be signing up to that gym (and I've learnt a lot).
foundit wrote quite a lot on this topic last year — I still haven't digested it. Maybe we should have organised the topic into a wiki page.
I looked on gumtree and there was lots of memberships that people no longer wanted, and offered to transfer over to me at no cost. A gym like fitness first has potential people from all over australia, many on really good deals (if you refer a friend you get your membership reduced by $5 per month forever - so some people pay hardly anything). This saves you having to sign up for a long term deal. I just got a membership this way for $12.95 per week, no contract, no joining fees. The other party paid the $50 transfer fee and it all worked out good for me :)
Hmm I saw an offer on a product the other day for one month free if you buy the product…it was something backwards like a packet of chips but I can't remember what.
I'll keep an eye out, 2 weeks free or 1 month free deals are around all the time. That's probably the best deal you'll get if you join a big chain of gyms.
