Virgin Contract Renewal Offers

Hi,

My wife's Virgin contract is due to expire in 4 months. She received a phone call from Virgin and they offered to release her from the current contract if she signed up to a new 24 month contract (ie. phone upgrade now rather than in 4 months). They offered her the Galaxy S3 on her existing $49 plan, the S3 4G for $5 extra / month or the S4 for $12 extra / month.

An upgrade now is great since my wife's Galaxy S2 is on it's last legs, but I was wondering whether anyone had been able to negotiate any better deals on a renewal of a contract with Virgin?

    Try asking for a bonus data allowance, you can also wait for the contract to end, so you are just paying the monthly plan, then wait for Virgin to call, and offer a better plan.

    Optus did this with me, my contract ended December. And I renewed in April. New iPhone 5, 4gb month, 1 year unlimited contract and I think 20% discount.

    Yes, likely to be dudded on value with new plans. Darned if I'd be moving off 2.2GB per month and $450 plus rollover for $29.

        I wish I had at the time… instead vodafone signed me onto what they offered was an identical deal for 6 monthly contracts. They said to call them every 6 months and they'd renew it under same terms.

        What happened after 6 months? They weren't willing to extend it.

        So now I'm with virgin but without the 2gb bonus :(

          You would think they would renew, to save losing a customer… O well.

          You would think they MUST renew because they made an offer which you accepted, on the basis that they would extend it just by asking.

          Too late now I suppose but always get that type of offer in writing/email etc. Poor form though of Voda. Was it a dealer that made that offer?

    You can buy a new SGS3 for about $500 online, which is equivalent to about $20 per week over 24 months.
    So on your existing plan your paying about $29 per month for the plan (49 - 20).
    For $29 you could get an unlimited plan from Kogan, or a cheaper limited plan (shop around Vaya, LiveConnected, Amaysim etc)
    And the best thing is that your not locked in, so you can change whenever you want.
    I used to be on a contract and I'd never go back.

    Got called a week ago too with similar offer 6 months out from expiry.
    They told me I'm not using all my credit so I could drop down and that I could sign up to any new plan as per website and there would be no cancellation penalties.

    Not bad considering I have an iPhone 4S paid out after 18 months, but no extra value added. So unsure whether to take the bait or not.

      I'd wait. 24 months is a long time and the next iPhone would be out soon enough, presuming you want to stay on iPhones. Don't leap on the next iPhone once released but give it a month or two for value proposition to increase.
