I found the BLOG codeword last week, but couldn't get it to work at all. Has anyone else managed to?

The code AGFG, PERTH or LIFESTYLE will give you $5 off tickets.

I haven't been able to find any better discount codes as yet.

I've tried most of the codes I've come across for other states and previous years, with no success.

  • They just do not have to be competitive in Perth.

    another $5 off … TASTE

  • anyone found any better discount codes recently apart from the $5 ones off? any $10 or double pass offers this yr? :(

  • ENTBOOK got me $10 off each ticket. It's the best I could find.

    • Thanks - much appreciated! Happy with that if there's no double pass offer… hmm i've got an entertainment book too but how did you find out about it? Don't think I ever got anything :(

WIll buy my tickets after work… it seems you can buy a celebrity theatre pass now for both entry into the show and one of the celebrity theatre sessions while paying the exact same as a general entry pass anyway?

You're permitted to bring your own wine glasses aren't you, if i can't find the one i purchased last yr (and the tumbler it came with :( )

  • +2

WEstfield Innaloo had a deal where if you bought $30 of fresh food, you could buy 2 - 4 -1 GA tix. Call their info desk onsite and see if it is still on.

You can flash your entertainment card at the buy counter on the day of the show and get $10 off, and save the ticktek admin fees.

    • True - but then we'd have to forgo the chance for the celebrity theatre to be booked out yeah?

Does anyone know what the barossa masterclass will be like? I.e. they go through the 6 wines in each group listed - are tastings actually going to be provided, however?

      • I just tried to buy the tickets on tickettek - can you no longer buy and print them electronically/at home? They must be collected in person ?? I get a 'delivery option' of 'venue/city box office collection' - does this mean you can only collect them on the day? or is there a tickettek site location withing Perth that we're forced to collect from?

        • I just bought with the Ezyticket method or whatever which means print off from home for the Perth event

        • There is a ticketek kiosk at the Convention Centre. I have always found them efficient.

        • Worked it out - appears if bought the celebrity theatre option (same price as general admission, without the celebrity theatre) there's no ezy ticket. Had to pay delivery fee or in my case i bought from a ticektek book in person. Convention centre actually (per poster below).

Quite silly.. don't know the rationale behind that….

      • You can actually get tickets to extra shows. The celbrities this year are crap, they will unlikely sell out. I have only been to two shows in over 15 visits to the show. (I go multiple days and in multiple cities.) The shows are a waste of time, regardless of the celebrity involved.

The Barossa class will include at least the wine listed, maybe more.

There will be an overabundance of grog at the show.

        • WHat do you mean by extra shows voteoften? As in free tickets for undersold shows? What were prior year celebrities like? That's some dedication goign to multiple shows across the country - are you heavily into your cooking, or the wine/food industry?

Why do you say the shows are a waste of time? Just the time constraints = the knowledge imparted is practically useless?

Hence why i went for the barossa class, thought it'd be an educational component but mainly getting to try the 6 different wines listed depending ont he list you choose.

Only went for one class though - rare and distinguished, but was contemplating a second i.e. the old vine. However, liek you said there's an abundance of free wine there, and i'm worried time wise you just don't have the time to walk around and fit it all in (testing).

Last yr was my first yr, went on a sunday, and so crowds were less. I'm anticipating it'll take longer to get a taste on saturdays… so i might just stick with the one class…

Random q: reckon they'll still sell the lanyard stubby holder thing for wine glasses seperately this yr? I can't for the life of me find last year's. I can find the glass but no stubby holder.. which is quite annoying. Rather not have to buy the whole set again.

        • I do not know about the lanyard. I am going Friday and Sunday. If I remember, i will check. I do not like the lanyard and buy the glass without it. I buy a glass each day I go. I think some years you can get a Rieldel glass for $10.

I bought a platinum pass for Friday to see if it was worthwhile.

The celebrity shows are cumbersome. You have to arrive early and wait. The chefs get treated like rock stars and it is all about videos and lights. Nothing learned. I had to select one for Friday due to the platinum pass. I sleected Luke Nuygen. Got a front row seat due to the platinum benefit. I may go because his would have to be low key. I'm going to try to say hello to him in the vip room before as we have a mutual friend.

I considered the wine classes, but friday is my drinking day at the show. Since I can go into the vip room, there will be included wine and canapes all day. Sunday is my shopping day so drinking is kept to a more normal amount. I am doing a cheese class on Sunday. I forget which one.

        • I forgot to tell you about the extra shows.

There will be a stall/kiosk where you can get tickets to shows that day. Just rock up and say which shows you want. They will be crap seats, but if it makes you happy so be it.

If I recall, the stall/kiosk is near the celebrity theatre. Go there as soon as you get to the show.

        • Well lucky i aint going for a celebrity show, but I'm not sure if the Barossa Masterclasses given they're new this year aren't they? If they will be any good and worth the time. i'm hoping they're pretty good and worth the time. How did you find the platinum pass?

Going to hit the sack in the next hour in anticipation for tomorrow. hope I misread below and you can actually bring your glass in from last yr!

What do you usually do in relation to shopping day? STock up on wines you like there?

Have you compared prices from show to in store? I found wines were being sold cheaper up here in first choice liquor and dan murphhys than at the vineyard cellars down south (voyager, vasse felix etc), and so I vowed to save the hassle carting the back up as well as worrying about the heat, and buy in store. Wondering if the producers on sale at the show will have a similar tale i.e. cheaper buying from an outside store post-the show?

  • Okay. The lanyards are $7. Wine glasses $6 (I think)

    Riedel glasses $12.

I stopped off to find out how the restaurant was being run this year. (The last couple of years you bought tickets for each course, etc). The guy at the gate started in on me about my Riedel glass, demanding to see the receipt and prove I did not bring the glass in.

    W T F!!!!

I could not believe it. Still furious.

    • Wait - so we can't bring the wine glass in ??? I bought one last yr, are we not allowed to BYO it back this year? From what you said it seems you have to buy there? If so that would be the biggest rip given I'm bringing the exact same glass as last year. I plan to just buy the lanyard if so.

What is so great about the RIedel glass? Is it considered a premium quality glass for that price?

      • Based on what that employee said, you can not bring an outside glass in. I have complained about his behaviour and also queried this. I am going to BLATANTLY try to bring my own glass tomorrow. Normally I would just buy another.

IF you are required to buy their glass in order to avail your self of the tastings that are advertised as being FREE, then they are potentially violating advertising deadlines. If I get any crap tomorrow, whatsoever, I am going to complain to every authority I can think of.

The platinum pass is available on the ticketek website and was NOT value for money. They were very stingy with the food in particular. I spoke to a number of people there and not one person was happy about the quantity of food in the VIP room.

I have always been a big propponent of the GFWS and have even told people here on this site that it is great value. This year Luv A Duck and woolworths are missing, as are some smaller exhibitors that I used to see every year. This is the worst GFWS show I have been to.

There is only one improvement. If you are interested in the celebrity theatre shows, it is no longer closed off. You can stand around and watch it on the big screen.

I was in the VIP room watching Miguels show and it looked empty. This was on Friday during the day however.

        • I went to Miguel's on saturday, 11:45 and it was packed. Think because you went on a friday. Hmm I can't remember anything about a woolies or love a duck last year but it felt like a lot more smaller and taster food stores than prior years? I mainly went/had the wine, and it felt liek there was alot more wine stores this year - or maybe I just got aorund to trying more? I don't remember the barossa and maclarenvale segregated liek they were this year?

I ended up buying the $10 cup and lanyard special anyway. I had my cup and it was $7 for a lanyard, so I figured why not pay $3 more for the glass? How much do you reckon a cheaper wine glass would be anyway? About the size/quality of the GF&W? Becuase for $3 more I thought it was pretty good - being somewhat glass as opposed to last years which i found (plasticy glass). so I ennded up carrying last year's glass in my bag.

perhaps becuase you carried it straight in? I carried last yr's glass in my bag as well as this year's i purchased back into the area after sat lunch. I also came back on sunday because I scored free tickets/exhibitor entries from one of the barossa's guys who was very accomodating, and brought it back in again on Sunday.

Sounds terrible your experience unfortunately. I did the barossa masterclass - rare and distringuished. wwas real good experience. had some great, expensive, good quality wines I would otherwise not have. Maybe it was the alcohol but I got carried away after this and bought them (soul growers, rolf binder were the two favourites). At $100/pop I'm regretting now, but for my friends who are wine enthusiasts there's no doubt they'll be worth every penny. It's just that for me I guess i could make do with $50-70 bottles and be the stinge i am, hah! Oh well, if I win lotto i'd happily buy them at $100/pop as they were out of this world.

One thing i noticed is they didn't check tickets to walk through the barossa area into the masterclass area. In fact if you were dodgy you could just take an empty seat and pretend you had a ticket and drink away. It would be very awkward/gutsy but still.. there are some no shame people out there who would do it.

I dont' get the platinum pass idea - don't you have unlimited tastings anyway let alone needing more int he platinum area? I would say the celebrity theatre is a useless experinece for learning, more for entertainment based on my miguel experience.

        • I was already in the show. I bought the Riedel glass upon entry. Had a couple of tastings. Was heading along the back past the "restaurant" area towards the RHS where the celebrity stage and the VIP room were located. I stopped to ask if the restaurant would be operated on a ticket system like the previous couple of years. That is when the dude started in on me. I did not walk in the door with the glass because I did not own the glass until I was already in the show.

Here's another thing. You are supposed to get access to the VIP room throughout the day. Then on the day they would not let me in while some lame ass morning tea was going on.

The people responsible have neither responded nor acknowledged my complain, so I will be complaining to the Minister for fair trading as I believe that the requirement that you MUST buy a glass FROM THEM in order to get 300 free tastings, without advertising that cost, is not compliant with what they would be required to do.

  • This OP put up a 2 for 1 deal for the show. You don't even need to by 2 tickets, it still halves the price if you buy one, three, five, etc.
