COTD ASUS 17.3" HD+ Multimedia Notebook

http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/21754/product/asus-17-…

I'm thinking of buying this as a backup for my old HP DV7 entertainment laptop. I know the Asus is an older (around 2011) model and obviously isn't top of the line but I was wondering what people here thought of it. Is it a good deal for the price? I don't want anything smaller than a 17" screen but I also don't want to spend more than $600-750.

Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks.

  • Check out Dell Factory Outlet:

They have a 17R SE for around $750.. I have the i7 version and it's pretty good. It's current gen technology

    • How long have you had it? I've heard bad things about Dell laptops in the past. I work in IT and there were always Dells with problems at my last job. I guess all laptops have issues from time to time but I just remember a lot of Dell products with faulty hardware.

      Thanks.

      • About a month I suppose. I'm in IT also and we use latitude and optiplex at work.. Generally speaking we don't have troubles with them - not in the last 5 or 6 years anyway. The Inspiron seems to be reasonably solid, but I would have preferred if the screen had a latch to keep it closed. Overall, I'm happy with it. However I did buy 2 year on-site warranty for it though..

        • Thanks for the info. Will definitely keep the Dell in mind. The problematic ones I was talking about is going back a few years so maybe they make em more solid now. Here's hoping.

  • if that with blueray, i will buy

    • nope sorry mate spec's tab says dvd

      a bummer for me to

      • For the price I honestly wouldn't expect bluray. And I'd go full HD if I was getting bluray too.
