It totally depends on what sort of job he wants to get?
Somewhere in the lines of Admin/Reception or Outdoor recreation/tourism
Government agencies often hire temps for 3-6 month stints. It would be a great job for a traveller that is happy to stay set in one place for a while. Good pay, flexible working hours, and usually pretty mindless work so you can do it hungover

Can Americans even come here on a working visa? I thought the Working Holiday Program was pretty much restricted to Commonwealth countries, like Canada, South Africa etc. It's generally reciprocal, we can't work in the USA without winning the green-card lottery, so I'm fairly certain they can't work here, unless highly skilled with sponsorship.
Yes, you are totally correct with the whole Working Holiday Program. Just asked him and he said he was looking at the Temporary Work(Long-stay Activity) Visa.
Remind him we don't tip… I've been shortchanged by enough 'friendly' yanks…
