Best 55" 3D TV <$1500?

Hi all,

I'm in the market now for a new 55" 3D TV <$1500 hopefully just in time for some "EOFY deals

Now, i never had a 3D TV before, tried it in shop though. I would prefer the passive one, never really like the "powered" glass, just give me headache. I already have a 46" Sony LCD, so i'd say LED would be my next buy or even plasma i heard?

As with brand, as long it's one of the major brands, i don't really mind. But most importantly, i'm looking for something which offer some of the latest specs with good price tag.

Appreciate your input! Thanks!

    • The review on the net doesn't seem too good for this TV, plus i think i prefer the passive technology of 3D tv

    • 55LM7600 - 55 inch LED LCD TV - Cinema 3D TV Best TV out at the moment

      reviews praise it

      • LOL…funny enough i bought the exact same TV…

Got it for $1482! Bargain! So far loving it!

        • Hi ,just wondering where did you get that deal (i mean the LG 55LM7600) :)? I think i will get one as well if it's below 1500

        • It's from Myer WA one day 20% off a month ago. But having said, all the ones on stock are all floor stock (hence extra 5% off). Keep an eye, they might do it again come EOFY. I came across Myers in Morley still have one last week on $1950.

        • The 2012 55LM7600 $1482 has been replaced with the 2013 55LA7400 $2299 at theGoodguys cheapest ive found

Your best option for a 55" LED 3D (passive flicker free $1 glasses) TV would be the
          PANASONIC THL55ET60A $1745
          http://www.2ndsworld.com.au/tv-audio-accessories/tv/led-lcd-…

          or
          Changhong 3D55A7000I $1199 ( 5 years warranty with Changhong )
          http://www.2ndsworld.com.au/tv-audio-accessories/tv/led-lcd-…

        • Choice magazine arent too fond of the changhong. One of the worst pictures they have ever seen apparently.

  • i bought a Kogan 55" 3D LED TV for under $1000.00 and its the best TV i ever had and its never let me down and it has one BIG advantaged over a std 55" TV you can adjust the LED backlight if you find the screen too bright and glaring as you can not do this with a std 55" TV but i think you can do this with any 3D TV but check it out first in the shops if you can or look at the manuals first hope this helps as its my first post.

    • no offence, but i heard so much bad review of Kogan TV..ain't so sure now

I have a 55 inch smasung 3d tv with glasses. My advice to you is forget about anything 3d at the moment. Content is very limited, and we only pull out the glasses to show off to mates.

Not worth any extra money imo. Wait until technology improves

    • +1

Agreed!! Never find myself using this feature at all!

    • fair enough…fair argument..but if i could watch 3D with just normal cinema glass (the flickering one just give me headache, and way too dear for 5 people or more), i don't mind that ..cuz you can always switch to 2D mode if you don't like it

  • It seems only LG has passive 3D, am i correct?

  • anyone else has any suggestion?

  • TH-L55ET5A - Panasonic
This was the one I bought for my place and my brother said that it's much better than his Samsung Smart TV. ( based on viewing angle and color definition) It also has an active 3d which is much better IMO than the passive 3d tv's which most of the time can cause dizziness and flickering. Just IMO. =)

  • is LG tv the only one which has 2D to 3D feature?

  • anyone came across any bargain for TV this weekend ?

  • Have you bought anything yet mate? Im on the hunt for a new TV but probably a bit smaller. I noticed that anything in the LG range 6700 and 7600's dont exist anymore in stores. Wondering what they have been replaced by because these TVs have had some pretty good reviews. Ive been looking at the LA6620 and LA6630 TVs and they look pretty good, but more expensive. And no reviews on them as of yet.

    • LA6620 and LA6630 are crap and thicker then normal LCD TV's.. only the 7400 is the true replacement to the 6700 and 7600 ..

You best option are the Panasonic T60's 50 THL50ET60A and 55" - THL55ET60A that are as close to the 6700 and 7600 as you can get and use LG panels

      • Thanks for the reply. I have yet to view any of the TVs in person so im just going off features, specifications and reviews at the moment. Thanks for pointing out the thickness difference, i probably wouldve missed that, although its not an issue for me really. Im pretty keen on LG's dual play feature where split screen games can be viewed as full screen by each different player which is why i like the LA6620. Also love TVs with slim bezels. Im currently building my study in my new house and while i havent measured the space where the TV will be mounted i think its only going to be around 1m which means i ll have to go with something around the 40 inch range.

        • Most new 2013 LED TV's are about 1" thick so they are very thin and look like a painting when wall mounted. they all also have next to Zero bezel.

The LA6620 and LA6630 are around 8" Thick and apart from cost cutting there is no reason an LED TV in 2013 needs to be thicker then FFL LCD TV's from back in 2007 LOL

Shame on LG for cost cutting so much on there entry level LED 3D TV's.. do not give them your money for this stupid cost cutting move.

Sony, Panasonic both have Super thin (1") LED passive 3D TV's that are better value then the LG LA6620 and LA6630

The LG LA7400 is also super thin (1") but costs 30% more then the SONY and Panasonic sets. Avoid LG this year. Look to SONY or Panasonic for your passive 3D goodness hehe

        • According to specs those LG TVs are 52mm which is around 2". If the really were 8" (200mm) theres no way i would even look at them. 1" vs 2" is no issue to me, but yeah 4" plus would be too much.

Im steering clear of the Panasonic you mentioned purely because its poor gaming performance. I will be primarily using the TV for gaming so thats important to me. Going to do some research with my own eyes this weekend hopefully.

        • 52mm? no wayyy its that thin lol in store the new LG's are thicker then my parents 55" CFL LCD samsung b650 from 2008.. Always a good idea to see the sets in person! :)
