  • Worth it for Unreal Tournament 3 Black. Great FPS arena game.

  • +12

Nice. Unreal Tournament 2004 still one of the best FPS ever imo.

  • Are there still many players on Unreal Tournament 3 servers?

    • +4

Nope, pretty much dead, fun with bots and mutators though.
Also where is proof the steam sale has started, or is it imminent?

  • +2

It hasn't but it's about to. The summer sales start in June.

    M-M-M-MONSTER DEAL!!!

  • Got this on the PS3 when it first released but disappointed that there was no support in regards to customisation. This is defiantly a MEGA DEAL!!

omfg UT, greatest competitive FPS ever (for me anyway, never took to Quake).
Old school arena shooters feature 3 words today's kiddies will never understand the greatness of : "click to respawn".

rather disappointing that multiplayer style of Halo & CoD have ended up supplanting the likes of Quake and UT. Matches are infinitely more intense and trash talking teabaggers were scant and generally inaudible over the constant sound of explosions, gunfire and the legendary UT announcer.

  • They really need to bring back this series.

  • Installed UT 99 the other day and didnt find much going on there, its a real shame gaming isnt what it used to be

  • +4

Realistically having the latest Unreal game your not going to be playing the old version unless your a die hard fan, so $10 for UT Black

    • I agree with this.

I love playing old games, especially those from GoG. However Unreal Gold and Unreal 2 aren't good games, at the time of release they impressed people with their visuals and the engine capability. They were almost big demo's of their brilliant Unreal engines.

If there isn't anyone online to play the original Unreal Tournament I'd state it is not worth playing it either. Great in its day but the bots AI in 99 is truly dated now. UT 2004 offers some fun challenge and their are some pretty good mods out there too.

But for most people this really is a deal for UT Black.

I wonder why they left out UT 2003?

    • :(
2003 was the first Unreal game I bought! Loved it to bits.

    • Well maybe because 2004 had pretty much all the maps 2003 had?

But they should've just included that in for the sake of completeness

    • +2

Because on release 2003 wasn't well liked, it took several patches to make it any good. Then they released 2004 and that was awesome, it took best bits from 2003 and just made it better. Everything that was in 2003 is in 2004, so getting 2003 would be a reduced version of 2004.

I can't imagine anyone online or anyone at home playing 2003 if they have 2004 available. So there is no point. 99 and 3 are different types of games.

Some people do prefer 2003 though, the poor balance lead to some fun moments that people really liked, like fragging people with the telelocator.

    • If I remember correctly, UT2k4 has most of the elements of UT2k3. I'm sure it has all the game types and weapons. Maybe not the maps. UT2k4 has more game types as well, and better bots and graphics. So there's not much to play UT2k3 if you have UT2k4.

This isn't really the Steam Sale…. this is just a week long sale on one series. Bit missleading, but good deal anyway

  • The release of (SDK, at least) Oculus Rift makes me want to get this.

  • Hey for anyone interested, here is a tech-demo of what the Unreal 4 engine can do:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dO2rM…

Though not sure what kind of PC you'd need to play a game looking like this.

  • Guys, I've played the "normal" UT3 before, what's the difference with this Black edition that's out?

    • +2

UT3 Black is UT3 plus all the patches and add ons. Changes the gameplay somewhat, but still the same game.

  • UT3 is the most boring of the lot, since the other devs who helped make 1-2004 awesome moved away to make stuff like Warframe. Multiplayer for it died out pretty much within a year of release. Still a great deal for the rest.

  • My gaming childhood was primarily made up on the PC; Hitman, AOE, Quake, UT and especially UT 2004.

Loved UT 2004 to bits and can remember playing for ages! UT3 campaign was weird for me, i don't know why. Maybe seemed boring but that's probably due to me moving on to COD/Halo franchise.

Still, great value at $10 for the lot, even if only for the nostalgia.

    HEADSHOT!!!

  • it's official, I am now inspired to make a mod for the redeemer and call it the Nostalgia Bomb.

  • Damnit man, don't throw phrases like "Steam Sale" about so lightly!
Now what am I supposed to do with all this adrenaline?
