Good pair of earphones (not in-ear)?

Hey all

My friend's after a pair of earphones but not the in-ear kind (the most common ones these days). With mic preferred but not necessary.

Among the choices of Earpods, and everything else. The only thing is I don't know how "everything else" is.

I've heard earpods are decent, but what about everything else? Budget is about $40.

And I wonder where it's cheapest to buy earpods. Having looked on ebay for "genuine" ones, the cheapest are around $30 (which is only $5 less than RRP) but there seem to be the fake ones like these for about $5. Fake ones should suffice right?

    Search up Yuin PK3 (entry level), PK2, PK1 (ultimate). You might think its expensive, but by far worth it. Considered by many to be the best earpods in its price range which is rougly $50AUD - http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=324.

    Btw, PK1>PK3>PK2 but PK3 is the cheapest.

    If you're going to get Apple Earpods, you might as well get genuine. If you have a mate who works at certain companies or is in uni still, you can get educational or EPP pricing (which is $31.90). IMO they sound pretty decent for included earphones. There aren't as many options as there are for in-ear or headbands, but if you're looking on a budget, maybe keep looking at sites like COTD? I bought Skullcandy Aviators (over the head) for about half the price from memory about two months ago.

      Do you recommend genuine because you're pessimistic about the fakes? Cause my friend whose used those cheap $2 ones off ebay says that "they are actually not bad". So I thought it might be the case with earpods too.

    I'd simply get some of the $5/$7/$10 Sony/Panasonic/JVC ones selling online from reputable dealers (Amazon, etc) before buying any others. It's too bad there isn't much higher-end choice if you want better sound these days.

    I also HATE the ear-plug style earphones popular now and the stupid sounds you hear from the cable. Yes, they block sound better and yes they annoy others less but in my opinion they are a terrible trend, just like gloss TVs.

      I initially hated these ear-plug style ones but I don't mind them so much now. I'll look for some cheapo ones!

      Still considering options (yours, Earpods, Yuins) at the moment!

      and not sure why you got negged for that.

    i got myself some RHA SA950i from ebay $60 free shipping , here is a review http://www.digitaltrends.com/headphone-reviews/rha-sa950i-re… ,i can say they are the best value for money I've heard and they look good , not too big that they are flashy and comes with ipod and mic controles, the review does say that they are uncomfortable over long periods but i have not found this to be the case.

      they're headphones, not earphones though.
