Tontine Sleep Health High Profile Latex Pillow $36 @ Target Online Only

80

Don't pay $44 (save $15) at Big W or $69.95 (save $70) for Dunlopillo at Harris Scarfe.

Dunlopillo and Tontine are both from Pacific Brands and apparently identical.

As with pillows, latex mattress are the best, and for quality/value, it's hard to beat http://www.naturalbedding.com.au/?page_id=152.

http://www.tlclatexpillows.com.au seems like an interesting company to watch - its founder is formerly of PacBrands and Dunlop Foams :)

I'm keen to try a latex pillow but have heard they retain their shape very well under pressure so the "high profile" has me worried that this pillow will be too high?

Probably better suited to side sleepers than back sleepers
Also the latex can have a funky smell at first so needs to be aired out before use

      • oh man, the smell.

I use to have a hand me down latex pillow and it was fantastic! had it for way longer than I should have!

I bought a replacement from DJ's and simply couldnt get the smell out. Left it for a week in the breeze, nope, washed and dried it, nope. Nothing I could do.

Gave my girlfriend horrific allergies the one night we had it, had to remove it from the room before they calmed down.

So yeah, latex is a mixed bag.

        • So no latex in the bedroom for you?

They're very …cloud like? They retain their shape incredibly well - by well I mean they literally spring back instantaneously, but not because they're firm,. They're like an extremely soft rubber. I bought a contour latex foam pillow from Target when they were having a sale and Latex is honestly enjoyable. covers all the shortcomings of memory foam (which is firm, Latex feeling like your head is suspended and not resting on anything).

I would recommend going to a store and just squishing one. As for the High profile, as cytotoxic says; this would be more suited to side sleeps (where there is a larger gap between your head/neck and the bed).

      • I bought a contour latex foam pillow from Target

Is that the same as this pillow though? This is only latex?

        • The one I got was a contour; which means it's shaped differently, but the material is the same.

        • OK. Thanks for the reply guys. Will give this a go.

  • Thanks tonester. Just grabbed one.
Like others have said, for those who sleep in the fetal position, these are like manna from heaven.

  • Sold out. Unbelievable.

  • I don't know why but these latex pillows literally give me nightmares. I don't normally have dreams but every time I use one of these, I dream of something unpleasant, and wake up really tired the next morning.

So I just got the pillow yesterday, here's mini review after 1 night:

    Pros
    - Indeed does not lose volume
    - Very little to no weird smell at the start and I could not smell anything after lying on it for a bit (I'm 25 so my sense of smells is still good, I let it sit in my room for a few hours before using it with a cover)

    Cons
    - While I think I got used to it and the initial smell was not very noticeable to me, it still did have a slight smell and different people have different tolerances (as demonstrated by glados above)
    - This particular model is labeled "medium" feel so may not be as soft as some pillows. I'd say it's around the same "softness" as my polyester fiber filling pillow (not sure how old but probably a few years?) except there's less "give" due to how "bouncy" it is.

In terms of sleep quality I cannot judge after 1 night, might update this after a while if others are interested.
