HP Onsite Warranty

Just thought I should change the flow of posts by posting something positive.

I purchased a brand new, but very old model HP Elitebook and after a few months, I bought a new monitor to hook it up to the DP port. Had some issues with it and after many attempts at software device drivers etc, decided to call HP service centre.

Had a technician come out to my house the very next day (can you believe it, I paid $150 for a first gen i7 AND it comes with 3 years onsite warranty!) to replace the motherboard and still had issues. To cut an already long story short, after two more visits, he said he will log a call to the customer support team to replace my notebook. Apparently, 3 is the limit on how many visits for a fault before they replace your laptop. Very likely (fingers crossed) they won't have my old model so I will be getting an upgraded model.

Painless logging of a service call, technician came out three times at the stated times. Awesome experience, especially when compared to Lenovo.

  • theres no problem with HP enterprise support

problem is the all the HP rubbish you buy at HN JB etc. have crappy walk in warranties where they use a 3rd party and have no SLA

i actually dont think there's anything under $1.5k retail that has a 3yr onsite warranty but thats what you pay for

  • Great story!

As tonyjzx has said, most people have problems with low end cheap laptops — HP Pavilions, Dell Inspirons, ThinkPad EDGE, Toshiba Satellites, etc. However if you buy enterprise machine with NBD support, the service are usually great.

I had great experience with Dell Latitudes and how a technician actually comes to your desk to replace the motherboard.

  • Personally, I think a lot of the retail laptops are rubbish, but they need to cut costs down somewhere. As enterprise laptops go, I prefer the Lenovo, however, their service record has been terrible and I am moving my clients over to Toshiba. Might consider HP after this positive experience though.

  • everyone whos dealt with enterprise laptops has good and bad stories

Lenovo isnt really an option now their onsite has gone to shit

HP is still the best with Dell a 2nd… too many times Dell have a guy come to you who has to stumble thru a PDF service manual to futz around with your machine… not good

  • +1

Just a quick update, it cannot get any more awesome than this. The replacement laptop I have been offered with is the Elitebook 8470P with the latest i7 processor! Great work HP!
