  • I want to play Heavy Rain so damn much, but I just can't justify buying a console for one game and one game only.

    • +5

      I bought a PS3 just for GT5. Worth it.

      • Me too.

      • +5

        Plus Uncharted series..

      • +4

I bought a PS3 with Journey, Heavy Rain and the Uncharted series in mind. It was honestly worth it for any one of those titles :)

        • +1

The ps3 is also a pretty good media player too

        • I'm looking forward to picking up a cheap PS3 soon, there's more than a few quality exclusives XBox owners have missed; in addition to Heavy Rain, Journey and the Uncharted series you mentioned, there's the upcoming The Last of Us (from the makes of the Uncharted series) Ni No Kuni the rpg that got some excellent reviews, the God of War series, HD Ico/Shadows of the Collossus (and the upcoming The Last Guardian from the same maker), Metal Gear Solid series, Demon Souls, Little Big Planet, Disagea, Yukuza 4 and of course GT5 amongst others.

        • +1

HD Ico/Shadows of the Colossus & Demon Souls are next months free PS+ titles (among others), Little Big Planet 2 was a previous freebie and 2 of the Metal Gears were freebies for the the PS Vita (2 & 3?).

Might be worth signing up for PS+ and start your game collection so when you obtain your PS3 you will have a game collection ready to go :)

        • I thought the PSN+ 'free' game collection worked differently.
From what I gather, your 'free' games are only free if you continue to subscribe and you can only get past free games if you had already downloaded them before.

e.g. you sign up today while Hitman Absolution is free but you don't download it before it disappears from the free game list, when it's gone you will not be able to play it for free.
However if you sign up and download LBP2 while is free but then delete it, later when LBP2 is no longer on the free game list you will still be able to get it for free because you downloaded it in the past.

        • Correction

From what I gather, your 'free' games are only free if you continue to subscribe and you can only get past free games if you had already purchased them before.

If you purchase the free games while they are available in the Instant Games Collection (ICG), they will always be available to download via your purchase history.

e.g. I 'bought' Hitman for free this month as part of the ICG, but because I'm so busy, I won't bother downloading now because I have no time to play it. I could download it at any time in the future simply by going to my 'Downloads' (basically a list of purchases) section in the store, or simply going to the Hitman product page where it will now say 'Purchased' rather than 'Add to cart'.

I've created a forum post that will hopefully explain the features, and can be linked to for future references

        • I just read somewhere else which said you can no longer 'add to cart' those free games. You can still reserve them by initiating the download, then cancelling the download but you HAVE to download it to have it available for future.

Not sure whether this only applies to NA PSN+ or something. I believe this means that if you don't have the hardware, you will not be able to get those free games.
e.g. if you subscribe today, when gravity rush is free but don't have a vita, it will not be available for you for free 3 months later when you eventually buy a vita but gravity rush is no longer on the free game list.

        • I have not got a vita but what I did was download Gravity Rush on ps3. Then when I get a vita I will transfer it from the ps3 onto the vita that would still work. Plus is on my download list anyway since the ps3 still allows u to download vita games onto it.

        • jtd, I'm not actually sure what your asking anymore…

I just read somewhere else which said you can no longer 'add to cart' those free games.

if by 'those' you mean previous ICG games, then yes. Once the content has been removed from the ICG section, it will show up as normal price in the store. But if you 'purchased' it while it was in the ICG section and free then it will ALWAYS be free for you to download at any point.

You can still reserve them by initiating the download, then cancelling the download but you HAVE to download it to have it available for future.

You cannot download anything unless it is in the cart and you complete the process of checking out. This applies even to free demos. After checkout you will have the option of downloading, or not. EVERY checkout or transaction will show up in your purchase history.

if you don't have the hardware, you will not be able to get those free games.

trumpedup has just confirmed that you can purchase content for hardware you don't have:

I have not got a vita but what I did was download Gravity Rush on ps3.

        • Sorry for awkward phrasing & thanks for responding. Haven't used PSN+ before but from what I understand you used to be able to park all the free games by just adding them to cart where as now, you actually have to initiate the download which is why I was concerned that if you don't the appropriate hardware such as a PSP or PSV, you will miss out on those free games as you cannot start the download.

On a slightly separate issue, according to this article there seems to be an issue with not being able to buy any of the free PSN+ games after you've downloaded them as free games (by buying them, you can still play them even if you do not continue your PSN+ subscription).

I'm 100% sure that you don't need to start the download to 'make it permanent'. That would make purchasing through the web store completely useless. Even if that were the case, if you own a PS3 you can download PSVita content onto the PS3 anyway.

Interesting article though, but it raises the question: why would you ever end your subscription anyway? :P

        • ionno, maybe for some kind of flail-arms-in-the-air protest against Sony and their oft questionable practices.
Or more likely wanting to rotate to another region's PSN+ due to more relevant free game list.

      • I bought it for MGS4

    • +1

I bought a PS3 for one reason only: Uncharted.

    • +2

Heavy Rain was and is one of my favorite PS3 games. For that alone track down one of the cheap ps3 deals going and get into the moving story. The closet game I have ever found to an interactive movie. Aside from that you can get Beyond Two Souls (same as heavy rain and coming later this year so really your getting two games at a bare minimum.)

      • Heavy rain was an experience, there is also the directors cut available

    • Rent one!

    • Was craving to play it for a while, even though clocked it twice. Maybe get into it . Great reason to own ps3 . Can't wait for beyond 2 souls

  • Just bought Heavy Rain & Deus Ex

  • +2

Cheers got God of War 3 and Heavy Rain.

  • +2

have already got most of them. it is a good deal for whoever miss these essential games for PS3

  • +1

Thanks OP, just bought 4 games!!! :)

  • +1

Ratchet and clank games worth it? May choose one and darksiders

    • +1

gameplay is not too complicated and they're pretty funny games. If $16.50 isn't a big hit on your budget then it's definitely worth it.

  • -2

I think the last time they did one of these was 2 for $31… the selection is still average. Not even Sleeping Dogs Essential?

  • Hey guys need help, will god of war 3 be ok to start off with? Never played any in the series .

    • +1

Yep, Nothing wrong with starting with 3. They don't tell a very good story anyway IMO, its more about the epic scale and cool monsters. You can even start with Ascension as technically its a prequel.

      • but if you don't play the games from the beginning, you won't get to see how Kratos gets angrier and angrier with every installment, which means you won't understand why he became the God of Hernia in GoW5.

I bought PS3 for bluray player only

  • -1

Pff who even uses PS3 these days???

  • -1

      • +1

and try playing that aunty barb cakes in a PS3

        • -2

That would ruin the PS3……..are you serious right now? They only take Cds mate LOL!! cant believe this guy

        • +2

          facepalm

        • -1

          Haha tell me about it!

        • +1

Mate we see talking about games here, not cakes

  • Little big planet gone off list

  • Some of these games are part of JBs 2 for $40 deals (eg Heavy Rain & GoW 3)
    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/game/games-2-for-40.htm

  • last time this sale was on there was a much better selection and it was $1 cheaper.
maybe it's just me but ozgameshop seem to just be going from one small disappoint to another, really starting to give up on them.

    • +1

You aren't the only one to notice. They aren't THAT great anymore but unfortunately no one else has really stepped up their game (so to speak).

And OzB has become a bit neg happy lately, people (kids) negging others for stating the truth, bloody hell?

  • Any idea how long this lasts for?
