Which SSD to buy and where is the cheapest?

I have an Asus U36SD, but i'd like to upgrade to a really nice ssd. I think I would be okay with a 128gb one, which is the best ssd on the market for its price? I wouldn't want to spend more than $200 ideally. Also, where is the cheapest place to buy them, I don't mind online or at a shop in Sydney, NSW.

Thanks in advance

  • Samsung 840 PRO 128GB (might be 120)
That's a good one and you can get it for somewhere between $135-$140.

    Try MSY?

  • +1

You could go for the standard Samsung 840. Reliable and is only $95 at MSY.
Alternatively, there's the Plextor M5S which is also an excellent drive for another $4.

  • One tip: because the U36SD is thin (nice notebook BTW!) there's a good chance that it needs a HDD (whether mechanical or SSD) that's 7mm think NOT 9mm thick. So Google and/or take your mechancial drive out and measure.

That said you'll easily find a 128GB for a little under $200. (Most of the ones that are just over $100 will be the thicker 9.5 but IF your notebook takes them then great.)

I've found MLN http://www.mln.com.au/search/?typeID=80&subcategory=SSDs%20%… to be one of the more competitive places and the fact that they have real bricks and mortar shops as well as online is reassurring because you know you're not dealing with an on-line only Chinese drop shipper with no warranty support. Note that some like the Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB SSDhave 5 year waranties rather than 3. Even though most people wouldn't keep their notebook for much more than 3 years the fact that the drive has a longer warranty improves your odds for avoiding any trouble within 3 years ;-)

When I used to live in Sydney I'd go down to that large arcade in Chinatown that has like 20 shops and just see who had the best deal.
