  • So basically this box does everything, bar the NBN?

    • +2

It's NBN ready. You plug the NBN into the WAN port.

      • +1

Aren't most router's NBN ready if they have a WAN port….nothing special there.

        • +1

The special part is having ADSL & a WAN port in one device.

If anyone who needs a new ADSL router now, with this one, they don't have to buy another one when they switch over to NBN.

        • +1

Most aren't able to handle 100Mbps on the WAN port though. I know my 7270 is only powerful enough up to about 70Mbps on the WAN port. So even though most can when they have a WAN port, the throughput can be affected.

        • Here's a good list to start with to compare the WAN to LAN ratios for the NBN

          http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/router-charts/

Most of the recent (last 18 months) Gigabit LAN routers towards the high end is more than capable of more than 100Mbps WAN. Since this brand is relatively uncommon, it is not on this list however (but has most of the major brands for home and soho grades).

    • +1

      It does do NBN

    • +12

      Labor or Liberal NBN?

      • both

        • +6

I don't see any reference to carrier pigeons on the specs list..

        • +6

you need to purchase the "nest" add on…

        • +17

I thought that the Libs used budgie smugglers!

        • +2

Ewww.. Abbott is the NBN? Well I didn't see that twist coming.

        • Liberal NBN? No such thing

      • +2

Labour. Liberal NBN is only 25% of the Current Cable standards!!

If you are considering buying one of these, just be aware they have been superseded with new models

    • +1

Nice! Looks like the new model comes with USB 3.0 and WLAN 802.ac

Thanks for the heads up :)

Also forgot to mention that this brand of router comes with a 5 yr warranty. Pretty much amazing all round except for the crazy johns look lol.

    • Do these new one fix the problems ppl had with this 7390?

      • I've never had a problem with mine…

      • No problem here either. Mind you, they could have fixed it with firmware updates.

Can you be more specific regarding the problems?

        • Oh, just posted further down the thread with problems I have had, and still have.

Great, when NBN, comes down my street I can sell this baby as an antique.

  • Good to see they are still around. Last time I used one it was the latest gear to get channel bundling happening over ISDN!

  • I was deciding between this router and the billion 7800vdpx last week but i went ahead and got the billion. Man…best investment of my life, in terms of electronic goods.

    • -1

      best investment of my life

how much capital gain have you made on it so far ?

      • +5

Not all investments are for monetary gain

    • +3

I have billion 7800vdpx as well. Quite good device with VOIP, NBN capable and other features. I dont like Billion' DLNA capabilities as it cannot even play basic avis to my TV.
But Billion chipset is more suitable for people sitting far from exchange and this one if they are near.

      Both are fantastic devices.

I have had this for about 18 months and I don't get on with it at all. I find the software very buggy (I use almost every feature of it) and a bit flaky- sometimes it blocks all http traffic from WLAN to WAN and only a reboot will fix it. The NAS will sometimes work and sometimes only show one of my drives, very random. I know others rave about it but this is my experience. I am just waiting for it to die so I can buy something different.

    • Interesting. Can you confirm you've applied the latest firmware and you've contacted AVM regarding your issues?

      • +2

Yes to both. Their only suggestion was a corrupt configuration and to reset it to factory defaults and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Which took me 2 days to do and made no difference. So they wiped their hands of it. Which I thought was a real shame, especially as it was under warranty.

        • I am running the latest firmware and have had major problems that they also wiped their hands of.
If I made VOIP calls to others with the same modem, there would be an unbearable crackle and pop. Fritz said it was the ISP's fault and wouldn't touch it. My ISP said they don't support Fritz boxes.
Solution: my other two friends eith Fritz 7390s were so disgusted with Fritz support that they bought other modems. My problem was solved instantly.
I WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND FRITZ TO ANYONE BECAUSE OF THEIR VERY POOR SUPPORT POLICY.
You know Dell that are "bad" with support? I've always resolved issues with Dell, but Fritz point blank refused to address or resolve my consistently repeatable issue.

  • It looks like a spaceship.

  • Fantastic device. The 5 year warranty is great peace of mind - especially on something that you are probably going to leave switched on 24x7

    • +1

Having said that I can't remember the last time I had a router die… Used to be very common in the early days

      • how long do you keep them ?
Very rare to still be working well after 5years. Hence the warranty on this csounds great, until you read DeWalt's post and realise that with such a complex device there are lots of loopholes, they don't guarantee every function with every ISP.

      • My Billion lasted until about 2 months after the warranty expired.

  • +2

have had this for a couple of years now- best router I have had, even better than my banksia 33.6 wave modem:-)

other awesome features are the child protection - no more teenagers sitting under their covers on their iPhone all night as you can set time and hour limits on a per device basis. the app is pretty cool as well, use your smartphone or ios device make and receive landline or voip calls, with easy dialing rules to select whether to use mobile, landline or voip for outgoing. receiving answering machine messes via email is pretty cool to.

overall I would highly recommend this to people looking to purchase a new device.

    • I bet you paid more for the banksia too

  • +1

Fantastic modem. I got with the phone bundle. Works great. I can answer calls received in landlines from my android mobile with the app and I can dial outgoing from rynga configured on fritz using my mobile. Use almost all the features and I could not be happier. If you need the bundle, it is cheaper than this. Search on internet and I got the bundle for $340 delivered. Much cheaper than this deal. By the way this is a DECT base as well. So DECT cordless phones can talk to the fritzbox directly.

    • Any dect cordless phone?

      • I use Fritz phone and Telstra cheap cordless handset which I bought for $20 3 years back and sound quality is better than with original base. No address book sync on this phone.

  • Very bad service, paid a while ago, have not received my modem. no update on the progress.
