is there anything to watch out for when shopping at rakuten?

My wife brought some hair dye from Rakuten, but EMS will not ship it because it is consider combustible and dangerous.

We had to dispose of it as the store won't take it back.

    • I hadn't experienced any down side so far but who knows?!

Should mention 10,000 yen is around $100 AUD.

100yen = 2 new release le blurays, 3 le music cds, 1.5games, 1 figure, 5 small models, 3 tshirts, 1.5 jackets. 100 yen doesnt get you very far in japan :(

        • it does well at diaso (100yen shop)

Fix misleading title (to show that -only- up to 5000 Yen of Shipping is waived).

I bet S+H is -costly- from JP tp AU…

    • There is a restriction on the number of letters for the title… Attempted to fix it, but couldn't add the extra info.

  • I've bought a few bottles of some really good Japanese whisky (couldn't find them anywhere in Aus) from here a few times. Highly recommend!

Bought some shoes for my 6 months old daughter, thought i would be unique ….. after lengthy process, they arrived and is Made in China anyway :(.

    • i've found when shopping in japan that their 'made in china' stuff seems alot better quality than the 'made in china' goods we get here.

List of participating stores is now available: http://global.rakuten.com/en/event/freeshipping/list.html?sc…

Remember that entry closes on Tuesday the 14th at 9.59am JST. Less than 24 hours left.

    • Thanks Elliot! I should add the link to the post :)

    • I've had $109 worth of stuff in my cart since this deal was posted and didn't realise only some stores were participating. Would have been very disappointed if my chosen store didn't participate but looks like I got lucky!

  • Anyone knows any cashback website for global rakuten? I know US rakuten has 5% cashback from ebates. I m buying $700 lens will be nice for a cash back. Thanks much.

    • Not sure about the cashback, but Rakuten Japan offers 1 super point on every 100 yen spent. If you are buying $700 worth goods, you will roughly receive 700 super points which is equivalent to 700 yen. You can use that super points for next shopping. Rakuten also offers extra points for free that are valid for limited time. You can add the campaign points to your existing points for next shopping too.

  • Any good cheap sake? Not really familiar with Japanese sake, but will appreciate any recommendation. A bit sweet rather than dry will be fine :) thanks.

  • got 8 pieces of clothing for 11000 yen. wooooo!

it's my first time buying from rakuten, so i've placed my order, received confirmation email from rakuten then from the seller, I don't need to final confirm anything right?
if there was no free shipping I would want to final confirm the shipping fees from the seller before my card gets charged…

    • Different shops may have their own procedures, but typically you'll have to wait a few days now (possibly up to a week) for the shop to send you another email confirming stock and advising you of the postage cost (if any).
That email will ask you to reply confirming the final cost before they charge you.

      • ah cool. the seller only contacted me in japanese and my keigo isn't up to scratch so i wasn't sure whether i needed to reply; turns out i don't need to, they shipped it today.
