Anyone know of any good deals on decent AAA batteries?
Good deals on decent AAA Batteries?
Comments
http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/80240505/ $2.99 for 10. These are $1 less than they used to be, the same discount you used to get with the IKEA family card. Not sure if there is a current family card discount. I find these batteries are great, they are alkaline and perform and last as well as Duracell batteries. I think they are made in Germany.
EDIT: Looks like the new yellow/silver ones are made in China, the other ones (full yellow) are German. Still have them in C and 9V.
I haven't read any specific tests on Ikea's AAA batteries , but their AA batts do well. Bargain.
Though a bit more expensive (still 24 for $8.99 I think - 30 AA for the same price) , I can personally vouch for the quality and longevity of the Vartas from Bunnings.
Haven't tried the slightly cheaper Utilitech batteries from Masters, but gut feeling on the basis of some of their packaging is that they may come off the same production line as Jaycar's (just discontinued?) Eclipse range - which means they'll at least be ok.
By the way endotherm, don't be too fussed about country of origin. A few years ago, I bought four 'Made in Germany' AA Camelion batteries. Despite many years before 'expiry' date, one leaked in the unopened packet (!) and I was silly enough to risk installing the rest (voltage was fine).
Result? One thoroughly ruined travel clock…Another by the way…
Choice mag tested AA batts awhile back and Aldi's came out top overall, just shading the Duracell Ultra's.
If the price per cell is right, a reasonable gamble is that the Aldi AAA batts are similarly good.Tas just watch your Vartas, I have ruined my free postage scale, with them,
Plus a number of remotes, in which they leaked but I got to them before too much damage.
They leak badly. Ok if you are using them in high drain items because you can run them out before they leak, but in low use items absolutely dangerous.
Shocked to hear of your experience, but all alkalines can leak when left in a low state for long enough.
I suppose I am a bit more vigilant than most as relates replacing batteries in devices before the voltage gets too low. I then tend to the use them up reasonably quickly in torches and the like. Have used dozens and dozens of Vartas and never encountered even a smidge of leaking electolyte.
Contrasting that, I had a couple of (supposed premium) e2 Energizers leak a while back in two separate remotes . Both sets of batteries should have still been fairly healthy. Alas.
Just checking the yellow versus the silver/yellow packaging, all of them say 'Made in China'.
Differences I can see are:
Name is 'Alkalisk' instead of '10 x Alkaline'
Ikea code is AA-296995-4, instead of AA-296995-1But no perceived difference in performance yet though.
Catchoftheday.com.au have a great deal on Duracell batteries…40 batteries for $25.65 with delivery, I ordered these and they are good, they have a range of sizes too so I have stocked up for Christmas.
