Samsung recalls 150,000 washing machines
Comments
Hmmm yes ours is one of them :/
No joke. Our Samsung top loader just burnt down 2 days ago! When we rang they surprisingly didn't sound surprised. Now I know why.
What was the model number?
SW75V9WIP (7.5 kg one). They're coming in tomorrow to check the machine so hopefully we'll have a replacement soon (…and hopefully they remember to replace the wiring in the new machine :)). I wonder how long it's going to take to fix 150,000 machines?!
By the way, it's been really hard to get through today so Samsung has apparently launched a 24 hr hotline (which is to be expected, considering the basic level of training of their seemingly overseas-based customer support crew).

It turns out our motor burned out. Rather than replace the machine they replaced the motor so now we have to put up with the smell.
After the repairman left we tested it out and it turns out the washing machine is "possessed" due to what they say is a computer malfunction.
Thanks OP! The service mob has called and will advise when the service will be.
Just seen this and it appears that ours is one of the models affected - SW80SPWIP.
How easy has it been to organise a service? I've googled and it appears that there are a lot of unhappy people trying to firstly get through to them, and then secondly to get somebody to come out and fix the problem. :-/
I'll be calling them first thing in the morning because I leave my washing machine running a ton of times when I go out somewhere.
i made my booking, no hassles. booked in for saturday. if there's a problem or a no show, i'll be back here to complain ;)
it's only an issue with humidity buildup. if you put on 10 loads of washing in a day, you're gonna have a bad time
150,000 is the biggest electrical recall in history?
Is that just a slight exaggeration from the newspaper?I wonder if some engineers are getting the chop right now.
all good. my machine already had the fix applied. they just put a plastic bag around the part that can't handle the humidity buildup. you can do it yourself if you want me to walk you through it. just need a ziplock bag (small) and twisttie
