moving to windows 8 mobile from android

Hi all,

I thinking about getting a Nokia lumia 820 and just really concerned about certain apps i use all the time with my android like gtalk, gmail, youtube etc… and i cant seem to find alot of info that google products are not supported by MS. only reason is that I travel alot and nokia drive has the dedicated gps without data support its a win on my travels abroad..

anyone used w8 with google talk with the support of voice and video talk.

cheers

  • Sounds like your getting it for one feature ie nokia drive.

Personally i would be getting another android or blackberry (personal pref)

I use and test all the latest phones for my work and iphones are okay android is exellent and blackberry is good. Other than that i stay away from windows 8 all together.

    • yeah..i still getting put off by certain restrictions on W8 phones. just the international roaming is a killer when i need it when i get lost in a non English country this is when google maps and translate are my saviors.

      • Or hotspotting, found that was not so easy on a w8 phone

      • Do you realise you can save areas of maps on Google maps so that they can be used without a data connection? It would seem that this would solve your problem and allow you to keep using android. It's a bit of a hassle but you can cache maps of the places you are heading while on Wi-Fi before you go.

        • Only in Jelly Bean and it is very limited. I use a separate offline maps app instead (try anything that uses OSM).

  • Might be worth investing in an offline navigation software:
