Unlimited Online Backup for up to 10 PCs with CrashPlan - $129.80/Y - Save over 40%

40

This deal was for World Backup Day, and despite saying that it ended 31st March, I successfully signed up for the family unlimited plan today. CrashPlan have Australian data centres and upload speeds have been great.

Here's a cost breakdown of plans:

Unlimited Backup for 1 PC - $60.50 (usually $92 monthly / $69.30 annually)
Unlimited Backup for 10 PCs - $129.80 (usually $198 monthly / $165 annually)

So the 40% off is from their monthly plan, but still represents a great deal.
Also note that the cart will show prices ex. GST until final checkout.

  • Not bad, but I'm sure I paid around $200 for 4 years for 10 pc's a couple of years ago.

    Great service though.

    • Yeah, before they introduced Australian servers, we had access to the US plans which were/are cheaper :(

    • Yeah I paid USD$287 for four years for the Family plan in 2011 too. Blame CPI I guess.

  • Says $118 a year on the website, is there a hidden cost or magically cheaper now?

    • GST is excluded so that's the difference

I think that practice is illegal in australia unless it is particularly advertised for business

  • I've twice paid $89.99 for CrashPlan+ Unlimited 2 Year Subscription

You can access US pricing if you use a VPN/proxy (eg, TOR). Even with the discount they're still price gouging Australians for an online service. Yes, they now have Australian data centres, but there are plenty of people like me who are just as happy with US data centres, yet we still have to pay nearly double the US price.

Btw, the title is misleading - it's not 40% off the normal yearly price, only 12-22%.

    • You can sign up for CrashPlan via a US VPN/proxy and still use the Australian datacentres. It GeoIP's you and will even give you the option to move you if you are still on the US data centre from an old account.

I signed up a new Family CrashPlan account via US proxy earlier this week (USD$429 for four years which works out to about AUD$104 per year) and the first backup on that account is already going directly to the Australian data centre without any further intervention.

CrashPlan have also been on the record to advise that they will continue to honour US pricing at renewal time even if you move data centres.

      • Why should using a US proxy even be necessary?

  • Don't suppose you can use this to extend / renew an existing subscription right? rjblakel - how did you manage to get the deal twice?

  • +1

I'd also be interested to find out if anyone has been able to use an offer like this to extend an existing subscription?

  • I refuse to support organisations that gouge Australians such as Crashplan. The differential between their AU pricing and US pricing cannot be explained.

Backblaze looks like a better deal, at least for my usage.

I am not going to neg the deal, but everyone should be aware of this organisation's gouging and vote with their dollars elsewhere.

  • Another service that I will not be able to use until the NBN, which according to the coalition means never… :-(
