Kogan have this for $609 + shipping
They had it for less then that when I got it price matched in Oct 2012. Don't know why it's gone up.
Fluctuations happen on Kogan's site frequently - due to the changes in the rates of currencies as the stock is generally grey import.
It's 969 there at the moment, they really matched kogan at 520? Stiff bargaining there, or was it just the camera, without the extra lens?

Lucky! I tried getting jbhifi to price match when I was buying a D5100, and they said no straight up! This was only price matching with Harvey Norman too….
They actually said 'if you want it for that price, go and buy it from Harvey Norman".I suppose every store has a different policy, or could just be that the staff member I got was in a good mood. Doesn't bother me as long as he keeps matching the prices for me!
Had that experience in Officeworks a few months back. Never going to shop at that hole again.

Plenty of stock at Newcastle West but not (edited from a mistyped now, thanks iphone) showing on the website. People use the dse stock stuff dogmatically and yet it's so often incorrect.

I was at the Top Ryde store today and they had the Nikon V1 twin lens kit for $549 less 25% = $410. Yes I know its an old camera and the V2 is already out but still a good piece of equipment for the price.

Good deal if you really want Nikon D5100 SLR. Normally, I wouldn't recommend a twin lens kit. However, in this case, at this price, you can only get the body and the 18-55mm lens normally. So, the 50-300mm lens can be considered free / bonus. A bonus 50-300mm lens is good.
Obviously, with the release D5200 , D5100 is no longer current gen DSLR… still a good DSLR though.
bought $716 for twin lens bout two weeks ago at JB, and harvey refused to pricematch.
You got very cheap camera body if you sell the twin lens.I prefer 5100 rather than 5200, and you can still have money to buy some great lenses. Better to have great lenses rather than great body with standard lenses.

For Nikon Lenses - start out with the 35mm F1.8 DX - there's no zoom, but the quality is sublime and you really learn about using the camera very well.
Plus, well…BOKEHHHH!
My lenses atm are a 70-300mm F3.5/5.6, the 35mm 1.8 DX and the kit lens -I'll be looking to upgrade the kit lens when I can afford it - fantastic range, but the quality from the other 2 trumps it so hard!

Good deal. D5100 is a nice camera. One of the only older generation cameras I would consider purchasing. Nice Sony sensor with great dynamic range. Really the only short fall as compared to the new D5200 is the AF system(which could be a deal breaker for some).
24 megapixels (D5200) compared to 16 megapixels (D5100) means a greater scope for cropping with more detail in the D5200 and probably less noise when any 24MP image is downsized to the D5100's 16 megapixels, all things being equal.
As much as people don't like to talk megapixels, I think this is a significant selling point for the D5200, even though the D5100 is the better value right now.

Decent deal but I didn't have much trouble getting JB HIFI to match Kogans price for it in October last year for around the same price if not for less.
