EDIT: And to be fair to you, I didn't read shipping was included, so you are correct, there is no OS stock for $100 less than your asking price. The cheapest I am aware of is Kogan, but without free shipping the differential is probably more like $70-75 (and the usual 2-3 week wait).
I got my SG3 4G from Kogan and got here in about a week. Not sure why they advertise 2-3 weeks on the site though ?!

As the REP said the Aussie model comes with 2 years warranty as apposed to the usual 1 year grey warranty which may or may not cover the item fully.
everything under $400 would be overseas stock. The extra few dollars are probably worth it if your worried about warranty. Warranty is a lot easier to deal with if you buy an Aus stock phone

On top of that I've been reading about people who sent phones to Samsung Australia and the issue wasn't covered by their warranty . Actually Samsung's finding that most of the problems are related to water damage. Very convenient for Samsung ;-)

Are there much difference between branded and unbranded version? I mean do they use different ROM, which can say unbranded may already have chinese hand writing pad ready? instead of download a separate app for it?
if you plan on using a custom rom just get the cheapest. why not just install a different keyboard that has chinese hantd writing. he stock keyboard stinks like shit anyways
Main different is software/rom, hand writing you have to add from setting/keyboard selection, for chinese keyboard you may have to download app, similar for all the android phone.

Also, any difference in the Optus branded 820 from the regular other than the Optus included apps? Any physical branding?
I can't see any logo at the front, and if there is any logo on the back cover it won't be a problem since you can claim the wireless charging cover from NokiaPromo. The only other issue I can think is the longer waiting period for firmware update as Optus have to test the branded ROM.
Only different is software (optus apps), no other physical branding.
I assume one can simply uninstall the Optus apps… But what about the firmware updates? Will the Optus-branded phones get updates on a delayed schedule?

Optus are ridicuously slow at releasing the old upgrade for Windows Phone 7.8, I'm still waiting for mine on my old Omnia 7.

That's odd I've got all my optus apps uninstalled..
Although they do come back with android updates but it's easy enough to go through app manager and uninstall them.

Since Virgin Mobile is part of Optus, can anyone confirm if the locked Optus branded phones will allow Virgin Mobile SIM to be used?

some locked to optus phone accept virgin mobile sim.
A lot of virgin phones now just come with optus branding, so there shouldn't be an issue.
I saw the HTC Incredible S at Target Glen Waverley shopping centre for $59.83 but locked to Optus.
It was last Monday and I think there was at least 3 there.

I ask because you're asking a >$100 premium, I can appreciate aussie stock will always justify some additional price but where is the line drawn? To me this seems too expensive.
