Xbox 360 4GB Slim console- did I get a dud?

Hi,

So about a month ago I bought an Xbox 360 slim (4GB) from MLN for $149.95. I bought it to use as a network media player, and for the eventual relase of GTA:V.

When it arrived, I booted it up and connected it to my wifi etc.

About a week later- I turned it on, and it kept freezing at the welcome screen. After a quick search, I found out sometimes surge protectors cause this. So I plugged it into the wall and it worked.

I used it once or twice in that month, and it constnatly was freezing (both when connected to my network via WiFi and not).

Now, it refuses to sync my controller. Yesterday after about 30 minutes of attempts, it finally synced. I've searched for days, and nothing will get it to sync. I've tried using the sync buttons, turning every other electrical item in the room off, changing the batteries, moving the xbox to another room etc.

Have I just beem unlucky and got a faulty Xbox? It has had issues since day 1, and I really don't want to bother with organising warranty- I'd rather get a refund. Is this possible?

  • i got one from mln and is working fine.

  • I've got a dud 360 Slim once and I lodged a warranty claim, where they offered free shipping both ways to get a replacement from the factory itself. Based on your recent purchase, you should be able to get a claim from them, free of charge.

    • Yeah ms are awesome at repairs.. I'd just do that

  • Based on that (MS are awesome with repairs) I'll contact them tomorrow.

How about it arriving already with faults from day one? I thought I'd have some consumer rights there?

    • If it were a B&m store the yeah you could just probably return it, but if you bought online they will probably want you to pay shipping back to them. Taking the MS route your guaranteed a replacement with no cost to you.

    • +1

Microsoft is covering free postage both ways and a repair/replacement of the console. That is your consumer right. What more do you want?

It happens, hence the Warranty section most companies have.

      • I also got a free month of Xbox Live Gold!

  • Also doa warranty is typically only 14 days. After that they Will only get it repaired or replace at their discretion.

  • Ok understand the DOA and all that.

I spoke with Microsoft who were pretty helpful. Hang up on me once, but otherwise they were quite empathetic.

The operator brought up the fact I bought it, and by the time their replacement arrives (10-20 business days) I will have purchased a product and essentially waited 2 or 3 months to use it.

Anyway, she said she will try and get me some sort of 'compensation' by escalating it to another department. I requested a refund from them but I am doubting it…

  • I've gone back and forth with Xbox a couple times now, and ultimately I told them I want a refund.

I'm not that familiar with the ACC rights, but I'm quite sure I'm well within them to get a refund from the manufacturer as the product was faulty from the beginning. Any thoughts?
