Acer 24" 1080p LCD monitor (P244W) $233.55 after cashback, $77.28 after Education Tax rebate!

200

Heyas,

The Acer cashback deal has been posted previously, or at least, mentioned in some other deal, but I thought I'd share how I snagged a 24" Full HD monitor for $233.55 =)

  1. www.9289.com.au has an advertised price of $329 until the 14/2/09
  2. Print off webpage and take in to Officeworks to price match and beat by 5%, bringing the price to $312.55
  3. Claim $79 cashback from Acer to bring the final price to $233.55!
3a. If you have kids, you might be eligible to claim back half the purchase price ($156.28) from the new education tax rebate and bring the final price down to a mere $77.28!

Oh and ladies, this could be a pretty awesome Valentine's Day gift for your loved one! ;)

Interesting. Here's a direct link of Acer P244WB on 9289.com.au (such a weird domain name!)

Now I just need to find out about that education tax rebate thing. Putting that to Google gives me this link, and

The Education Tax Refund (ETR) is a new government initiative to help with the cost of educating primary and secondary school children. It means eligible parents, carers, legal guardians and independent students could get 50% back on some education expenses. This includes items like computers, educational software, textbooks and stationery

Looks like you need to be eligible for FTB part A to get it. :(

    • That's really interesting. I'll now be looking for anything that fits this description.
In particular anything that has a cash back to the value that closely represents 50% of the original purchase price. For instance, if you bought some IT gadget for $200 and were able to get $100 cash back from the manufacturer - the government will give you the other 50% - effectively you would pay nothing.

  • yay I'm eligible that means if they do price match with 9289 (which i don't think they will coz its online) it would be awesome.

9289 is also a bricks and mortar store/warehouse located in Chatswood NSW. I purchased 3 of these monitors tonight at OW North Ryde and they price matched no problems… gave me more grief when I asked to price match some RAM lol.

  • omg enough of this already… this monitor must've been posted 3-4 times in the last week… all around the same price point.

This offer is only good for NSW people as everyone else will be charged shipping at OW.

    • Perhaps, but I'm pretty sure I've swindled the cheapest price yet! Thought people might like to know.

  • Good deal RandomNinja, though I'm in the ACT

  • where can we check the cash back details?

    • In the supplied link at the top of the page. Dont enter any number and click Find. Choose monitors and all the cashbacks for the monitors will display.

      • Thank you.
Terms & Conditions of the P244WB LCD Monitor $79 Cashback (L109) Cashback

This Cashback Offer by Acer Computer Australia Pty Ltd ABN 78 003 872 768 (Acer) is open to customers who purchase the P244WB from an Acer authorised reseller in Australia during the Cashback Offer period which is from 02-Feb-2009 to 31-Mar-2009. The customer must be a resident of Australia.

        • So now this really pisses me off I bought the monitor one week ago and the cash back was only A$49!!

          • @ofey: You sure? One week ago would fall within the promo period 2/2 - 31/3.

OW advertised a $49 cashback, but when I got on to the Acer site, it offered a $79 cashback!

  • Im thinking about it.
The only problem is that it may not fit on my desk with my current 22".
I will have to do some measuring

  • Good Find RandomNinja but not everyone is eligible for FTB Part A :(

  • Be very careful with the Acer cashbacks, this is what Choice said "In Victoria, Consumer Affairs (CAV) singled out Acer’s cashback offers for harsh criticism in its last annual report. In the 2007-2008 financial year, CAV received more than 50 complaints about Acer products and warranty servicing, the highest number of complaints about an individual computer retailer or manufacturer." -

  • If you do apply for cashback - send it Registered mail

  • Just picked up one from OW with price match and further 5% off. However, they did call 9289 and confirmed all details and that they had those in stock ready for pick up today. Fanatastic bargain.

  • Kimi you can still claim it in your 2008-09 tax return if you use your computer for work from time to time. SO you will get a refund as per your highest tax rate.

    • I thought it was only the percentage of the total time spent doing work on it. So if the computer is purely for work then you can claim 100% of the credit but if using it less than you only get that percentage back.

Anyone feel free to correct me on this.

  • i went into office works this morning and were happy to accept the price match but when he rang up, they had none left.
They said that they were getting more stock in this afternoon and grabbed myself one.
    beautiful.

    great post mate

  • Guys, i just went to Office work, and they do the match price, however they told me that the cash back scheme is not apply thought office work. Which mean you can't claim any cash back from office work if you purchase from them. They said you can claim from 9289.com store or others…what u guys think? i deciding just buy from 9289.com.

    • I dont think so. When I went to my local OW, they had a tag next to their price tag stating the cashback. And this monitor on their website made reference to the cashback for Jan.

  • i went to OW but they couldn't price match 9289 and the added postage which made it more than the MSY price :( but i got 1 for the MSY price

    • maybe we need to purchase one from the north sydney OW near this shop?

  • Just went to my local office works shop, wouldn't accept,
    I'll try another store tomorrow.

  • I got one from North Sydney and apparently that was the last one left. Nothing in Acer's terms and conditions that say cashback is only applicable to certain stores, so I guess OW should be fine.

    • I think T&Cs state only authorised resellers and OW obviously is, so all good!

  • Just went to the officeworks, and the staff member told me that due to a memo sent around they cannot match the price.

    Due to : -

    1. Officeworks offers a warranty while these other stores do not.
    2. These stores don't actually have a physical storefront (while they do accept pickup)
    • Well you could try another store, as i got mine from OW, or i got it before this memo was sent

    • Any seller in Australia is bound by the same conditions in terms of returns. Warranty is typically offered by the manufacturer and not the reseller.

    • I'm thinking this officeworks employee is a bit of a BS artist. Manufacturer warranty on these is 3 years, not officeworks warranty. And officeworks has always pricematched online stores, they do charge shipping (if you're not in the same state)

  • Just got one then, $330 before cashback from officeworks. Forgot to bring the print out, so I fired up the good old iPhone.

Officeworks will do the online store price + postage ($39 to townsville) minus the 5% price matching.

    • just watched a bit of a blu-ray movie.

damn this thing has great response rates for such a big LCD panel. 2ms.

colours don't appear to be amazing, but have adjusted to be as close as possible to real life.

remember when buying, this is a 16:9 monitor, meaning it is a 1920x1080 (120 less vertical pixels than you're probably used to). excellent for watching movies (no black bars at the top/bottom).

the touch sensitive controls are pretty cool as well, no physical button except for the on/off, everything else is just touch sensitive.

  • Ended up buying one of these (they priced matched MSY's $349 price).

When first plugged in i could not adjust the resolution above 1280x1024, however after installing the setup disk its allowed me to go up to 1600x1200. I want to adjust it higher however it does not allow me (the bar in 'display properties' is maxed at 1600x1200).

    Any help guys :)

    • This is probably your graphics card/drivers.

Try updating your drivers to the latest edition

      • :s My graphics card is integrated into the motherboard (unsure of which). It states it has up to 64mb shared video memory.. As far as i understand it i have an empty slot for the card..

Any suggestions on which one i would need? (Not too strong in the the video card field.. do all video cards have the same slots etc?)

        Thanks.

    • I found setting my display to 1920x1080 60Hz was not filling the screen but at 75Hz it was perfect.

  • Have received an email telling me that my cheque was sent out on 31st march (after sending in claim on 15th feb) yet cheque has still not arrived.

    Not happy.
